It's Hunger Action Month!

Today kicks off Hunger Action Month - a month when we place special emphasis on the importance of hunger relief in our communities through volunteerism, education, and advocacy.

Here are some ways YOU can take action to solve hunger in our community this month:

9/2 - State of the Food Bank Webinar
Stay informed – join us for our first State of the Food Bank webinar on September 2nd at noon. Our CEO Julie Yurko will share results from last fiscal year and goals for the upcoming year. Register here.

9/10 - Hunger Action Day
Wear orange on Thursday, September 10th, snap a pic and share on social media with #HungerActionDay. Make sure to tag @northernilfoodbank on Facebook or Instagram and @ilfoodbank on Twitter. Help us spread awareness that hunger is real in our communities and it doesn’t wait.

9/11 - National Day of Service

Join us on September 11th for this national day of service to pack and distribute food to families in need. Sign up here for volunteer shifts at all four of our centers, and in communities across our service area!

9/22 - National Voter Registration Day
On National Voter Registration Day, we're encouraging our neighbors to register to vote! Follow and share our Tweet-storm, encourage your friends and family to register, and register, or make sure you're registered, by clicking here.
Throughout the month:

Complete the 2020 Census
September 30th is the LAST DAY you can complete the 2020 Census. The census provides critical information that will impact many programs we rely on. Getting an accurate account ensures we can advocate for all of our neighbors. You count, so make sure you get counted!

You have the power to elect legislators who are dedicated to eliminating hunger in your community. Make sure you register so your voice can be heard. You can register to vote, or check to see if you're already registered, by clicking here.

Throughout the month, we will be sharing posts, tweets, and photos about hunger in our communities across all of our social media channels. Share this information to spread awareness this Hunger Action Month. Interested in doing more to solve hunger on social media? Learn how you can become a Social Media Ambassador.

Contact Your Elected Officials
This pandemic has impacted our neighbors greatly. We still don't have another stimulus bill, and we need solving hunger to be a policy priority for all of our federal elected officials. Send emails, make calls, or write your members of Congress to ask them to prioritize hunger through a 15% SNAP increase, extension of child nutrition waivers, and increase in purchasing of food commodities in the next stimulus bill. Find your elected officials and their contact information here.

If you know someone else who would like to become a Hunger Advocate, please feel free to forward this email or encourage them to subscribe to our alerts.
Thank you for being a Hunger Advocate. Together we can solve hunger!
