Board Message

In the short time that I have been on the HABA Board, I have been impressed by the many dedicated people I met who give their time and energy to help HABA fulfil its mission "to seek justice and to promote knowledge of the law and the legal system to its members, the Hmong community, and the community at large through education, scholarship, assistance, and services."  I believe that HABA has done just that this year, hosting events to bring its membership and the community together, putting on CLEs relevant to our membership and the Hmong community, and joining and spnsoring events that align with HABA's mission.  None of this would be possible or meaningful without the support of our membership and community members.  This year, HABA will be holding its annual banquet in October.  Please join us as we come together to both celebrate and reflect on where we have been and where we strive to go.

- Shoua Xiong, Advisory Board Member

HABA Paaj Ntaub Award

The Paaj Ntaub Award is intended to recognize our members’ significant contributions to HABA, the Hmong community, and the HABA Mission. Out of this desire to recognize the contributions of others, the HABA Paaj Ntaub Award was born.
Why “Paaj Ntaub Award”? Through perseverance and a sense of community, the Hmong people have passed on their history orally and through Hmong tapestries. These paaj ntaub, which are created by the skilled needlework of Hmong women, allowed Hmong people to record significant moments and experiences in the history of the Hmong people. They recorded everyday life, war, and love. Similar to our Hmong paaj ntaub, the recipient of the award records into the history of HABA the contributions of a member of HABA that has significantly advanced HABA and its mission. This person exemplifies the spirit of HABA and is deserving of recognition.

HABA will be accepting nominations until September 20, 2019. Any current HABA member may nominate his/herself or another person. Nominees shall be a current or recent member of HABA and should be pivotal in advancing HABA and exemplifying the mission of HABA. Current board members may not be nominated. Nominations should be emailed to and include the information attached. The HABA board will evaluate all nominations and notify the award recipient prior to the 2019 HABA Banquet. The award will be publicly announced at the banquet.
