National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: September 30

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. Friends of Carlington & Hampton: Tree Planting
Thursday, September 29 from 10:30am-1pm (Hampton Park)
Friends of Carlington and Hampton are receiving 30 small trees & shrubs for planting in the area behind the snow fence at the Buell entrance. The National Capital Commission is supplying the native species as part of the plan to regenerate that area, after removing invasive Japanese knotweed two years ago. A NCC student biologist will be on site to help us plant. For more information contact: carlingtonhampton@gmail.com.

Tagwàgi (Autumn) Festival
Friday, September 30 to Sunday, October 2 (Mādahòkì Farm)
The second annual Tagwàgi (Autumn) Festival promises authentic Indigenous programming an Indigenous Makers and Farmers Market interactive creative workshops culinary delights and a chance to meet the rare Ojibwe Spirit Ponies — fun for young and old. Click here for more information.

OPL National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Events

In collaboration with Anishinābe Algonquin Host Nation, Ottawa Public Library has opened seven of its larger branches on the statutory holiday to raise awareness and support public education about the intergenerational impact of residential schools. Canadensis Garden Fall Celebration
Saturday, October 1 from 10am-4pm (Experimental Farm, Prince of Wales Drive at Hartwell’s Locks Lane)
In collaboration with Ottawa Garden Festival and Gardens Ottawa, the Fall Celebration shines a spotlight on local gardens and offers plenty of free family fun including horse drawn wagon rides, tree-planting and site walks. Click here for more information.

Municipal Election Community Information Session

Fourth Annual Ottawa Food Security Conference

Redblacks Youth Mentorship Program
A free opportunity to bond with a pro athlete through the Ottawa Redblacks and Youth Mentorship Program (for youth ages 14-18). Receive one-on-one individual mentoring by dedicated athletes, focusing on building supportive relationships between athletes and high school youth. SWAG (Students Will All Graduate)
SWAG (Students Will All Graduate) is offered by a team of Youth Workers, Ontario Certified Teachers and Volunteers 4 days a week throughout the school year and summer. Municipal Election Door Knocking Questions
The Council on Aging of Ottawa have summarized key issues for many seniors in a convenient 1-page handout. Print the handout and keep it near your front door, so you have key questions ready to ask candidates when they come to your door. Click here.
 
A Friendly Voice
This telephone friendly visiting line for seniors is designed to provide an option for those who may be feeling lonely or isolated. Senior's Centre Without Walls
Offered through the Good Companions, Senior's Centre Without Walls is a free interactive telephone-based program that provides a rich line-up of health-related information from professionals in the community, later-life learning opportunities, participation in brain-stimulating activities, and most of all, the space to create meaningful friendships and community for those who may feel  isolated. Telehealth Ontario
Telehealth Ontario is a free service provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care that allows residents to speak to a Registered Nurse any time of the day or night. Offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call 1-866-797-0000.

Carlington CHC Crisis Intake
Intake services have changed and are provided through the support of technology as much as possible. Please contact intake by email or call 613-722-4000 ext. 260 to make arrangements to pick up any needed items, such as access to our food or baby cupboard. Intake is open Monday to Friday from 1-4pm.

Coping: Group Conversation Sessions

Wednesdays from 5-7pm (900 Merivale Road)
This supportive group counselling is for community members struggling with substance-use, addictive behaviours, trauma, anxiety and/or depression. Providing a safe and responsive environment for people to learn and share different ways of coping with life's challenges. Registration required. Click here to view poster.


Women in the Wild
Wednesdays, bi-weekly, from 1-3pm

Counselling Connect
With planning and development support from the Ottawa Health Team-Équipe Santé Ottawa, community-based mental health and addiction counselling providers responded. Counselling Connect provides all ages free access to a same-day or next-day phone or video counselling session, and counsellors can be requested from the African, Caribbean and Black communities, the LGBT2QI communities, and the Indigenous communities, and is also offered in Arabic.  Click here for more information.
