One month left!

In less than a month, the first NAOC north of 60 will take place. We have over 550 participants registered who are coming to Yukon from around the world.

Wondering what to pack for Yukon in August? Although we may still get some summer days, bring long-sleeved shirts, fleece, sweaters and a windbreaker. Pack rain gear, a warm hat and thin gloves as in the mountains it gets chilly and sometimes rainy. Layers are essential, as weather can change dramatically during the day. Remember a water bottle to stay well hydrated. A whistle is mandatory for all participants - bring one from home or plan to purchase one in the arena.

In this month's newsletter, you will find important information about the event.

If you missed last month's newsletter, you can find it and all other communications on the website.

Registration Package and Shirt Pick Up

Registration packages and pre-ordered technical shirts will be available for pick up in person on Thursday, August 16 or Friday, August 17 between 10am and 2pm at Sport Yukon. An event centre will be open daily in each arena August 18-24. Due to waiver signing requirements, registration packages must be picked up by the competitor.

Statistics and Important Safety Information

Draft statistics
Course length, climb, and number of controls per event has been published on the website.

Yellow jackets and bee alert: There has been high activity in Yukon this summer. Plan to bring and carry with you on course your epi-pen or other prescription medications that you need for allergies.

Transportation Planning Survey - Deadline July 27

We sent out a transportation planning survey late last week. Please fill in the survey to help us plan appropriately to ensure competitors reach the arena on time. We based our original busing requirements and budget on registered competitors. We have been receiving enquirers about transporting non-competitive family members/friends/children. Your survey response will permit us to evaluate and come up with a plan should the non-competitive numbers be significant.

Draft Schedule and Social Events

In addition to races, we have a number of social events planned that will show you Whitehorse and have you meeting other orienteering enthusiasts from around the world.

On August 19, there will be a screening of SHIFT - a half-hour documentary about the indigenous youth from Carcross, Yukon who have spent the past 10 years converting traditional trails around their town in to a world-class mountain biking destination -- and transforming their community and themselves along the way. There will be limited seats available for the screening - keep an eye out in the upcoming newsletter to get your tickets!

There will also be a walking tour of downtown Whitehorse featuring the many historical and cultural gems hidden in our streets and alleyways, and an afternoon outing to the natural mineral hot springs - perfect for a relaxing and healing soak between competitions.
