Congratulations, on the 2018 year! This year was a huge achievement for all sections of SUHC. Our success this year is truly the result of the effort, planning, and direction that begun back in 2006 when SUHC was founded. I hope next year the club can continue to grow and build upon its success and for the club to provide a platform for all those who want to play hockey and be a part of the SUHC community.

I’d like to thank all those who have volunteered their time throughout the year, especially to the coaches, managers, club committee members, and to all who supported the fundraising events throughout the year. There are many ways members can be involved and I encourage anyone considering volunteering to put up their hand up for the 2019 season. All help is welcome.

And finally, I’d like to wish everyone merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Caitlin Campbell
Club President

2018 - Done and Dusted
As the year draws to a close we can reflect on the year, and what a year it has been.

There are so many ways we can judge the years, the number of premierships, the number of games won, the number of goals, the number of saves, but the most important is the enjoyment that we get from the club and the game.  We hope to see everyone back in 2019 with a bright and smiley face ready for a great 2019.

Our 2018 Numbers

In the 2018 outdoor season, 512 players have taken to the field wearing our Southern United colours, with eight men's teams, six women's teams, four masters teams, and junior teams: fourteen full field, four half field, and three quarter field teams.
In the 2018/2019 indoor season we have 135 players who have played.

Our 2018 Results

We of course also can reflect on the results of the teams. With 22 teams in to finals, 5 minor premierships, 10 teams in to grand finals, and five premierships

Premiership teams: Men's Premier League, Women's Metro B, Under 16 Mixed Shield, Under 14 Mixed Shield, Under 16 Mixed Pennant

Runners up: Men's Metro A South, Men's Metro B South, Under 12 Girls Shield, Women's 35A Masters, Men's 45D Masters.

Minor Premiers: Under 16 Mixed Shield, Under 16 Mixed Pennant, Under 18 Red, Men's Masters 45D and Women's Metro A

Looking at the statistics bluntly, does not show the amazing season our women have had. All teams in to finals, and the women's premier league showing their prowess in winning their qualifying final to then need to meet premiers Hawthorn in the preliminary final.

In indoor hockey our teams have also performed well.  Club Championships finished with one gold medal Under 18 girls and two silver Under 15 girls and Under 18 boys. At MSAC the Men's team finished as runners up in the B Grade competition. The skateworld competition at the start of year two permierships: Under 14 black and under 12 red  and two runners up: Under 14 Red and Under 12 Silver

Indoor Update

Southern United was one of only two clubs with a boys and girls team in each of the three age groups of the indoor club championships.

The under 15 and under 18 championships in December have seen our players show their prowess with the under 18 girls winning the championships, the under 18 boys and under 15 girls silver medallists, and the under 15 boys third. This follows under 13 girls fifth and the 13 boys sixth in November.

The weekly competition at MSAC has now come to an end. The men's team finished second on the ladder in the men's B grade competition, and finished 5-4 down in a very close final, not converting the PC after the whistle.

In juniors at MSAC, the under 18s finished seventh with an up and down six week season interrupted by emerging vipers and vikings, VCE exams and of course schoolies. The under 15s finished fifth and the under 13s sixth.

The competition at Skateworld continues in to 2019 with three more rounds to go. The never ending challenge of indoor - social versus competitive is ever present, especially in an ungraded competition such as skateworld, giving mixed results.

The under 16 red team leads the competition, followed by silver, while the black team are being challenged. The under 14 red team is second on the ladder while the black is mid field.  The five under 12 teams are spread across the ladder, with black second and silver fourth.
