Father John Writes . . .
The Lion shall lie down with the Lamb I have been watching Tik Tok, the social media platform that has become so popular with high school and college students. The App has determined that I like cats, and so it shows me many cat videos. In one a cat carries a mouse in its mouth. I knew the mouse was done for, but the cat takes the mouse to his feeding dish full of food, puts the mouse down by the dish, and they both begin to eat from the dish. Not the lion lying down with the lamb, which the prophet Isaiah describes as paradise, but a close approximation.

This week we celebrate our veterans. We are so thankful to our veterans for their service to our country. Nations do not always treat one another respectfully, to say the least, and so militaries are necessary. Those who serve in the military put themselves in harms way in order to protect peace and personal freedoms. We are grateful, and we honor them.

Looking at the commitment of service personnel, I challenge myself and others, to dedicate oursleves to pursue the vision of Isaiah. How do we work toward a society where enemies can be friends and where the needy are cared for? We cannot hope to accomplish this on our own, yet just as we came to believe our Lord Jesus Christ was sent from God precisely because he dedicated his life in this way, so too, we, being inspired by our veterans, can commit ourselves to pursue Isaiah and Jesus' vision. What actual activities can we perform? How can we partners with others with soldier-like dedication to our goal?

There is no better way to honor veterans than to apply the same dedication to the work of Jesus that they applied to our national safety

Have a blessed week everyone,
Father John+

Community Helping Place
Commemorative Christmas Ornament

Each year the Community Helping Place offers a signed, limited edition Christmas ornament for sale.  The ornaments are $25.00 a piece, and the proceeds help fund the many outreach efforts of The Community Helping Place, which include a food pantry, medical and dental clinics, and clothing and thrift stores.
The ornament is a beautiful rendition in metal of a special place in Dahlonega, but the subject is not revealed until the official Lighting of the Square, the day after Thanksgiving.
Over the years, these ornaments have become collectibles and sell out fast.

If you want to order an ornament contact Martha Roberts or Pam Jones right away.
