Parish Update: March 16, 2020
Father John shares some news. You can read the same news below. Blessings.
Hello all of the St. Elizabeth’s family
This is a crazy time!
Gladys and I worked hard today to figure out how to still be church without actually gathering until it is deemed safe to do so again.
Did you know the word Church actually means
The Greek is “Ecclesia”, “called together”.
It reminds me of the guy who bought his first universal remote control.
You know, one that works the TV, and the cable box, and the dvd player?
He said, “You know, this Universal Remote Control It changes everything!
Well in our life together at St. Elizabeth’s
This pandemic is changing everything!
We will not be having Lenten Contemplative Vespers tonight. I will figure out a way for us to have it next week either live streaming, or using Zoom.
Zoom is a great video conferencing … or meeting … application.
Using it people can see each other and as long as they talk one at a time it works really well.
The vestry had a very good meeting yesterday using Zoom.
We will use Zoom as one way for us to meet together.
I have already scheduled the Liz’s Place parents a meeting, a meeting for MOBS and ACTS tomorrow.
If you want to join a meeting using zoom it is easy.
Just go to the parish webpage.
Go to the Calendar Page.
I find it easier to use if I click the Agenda tab at the top.
Then just click on the event in question
And the instructions how to join the meeting will be there.
As we figure more out, I will let you all know.
Please call one another.
I have a list of people I am going to check on.
It will help with possible feelings of lonliness or isolation.
It will also help us know who is alright.
If any of you have a fever, shortness of breath, or a dry cough, call your doctor.
If you need help with transportation we can help you figure something out.
If you or someone from your family can let me or Gladys know that also will be helpful.
You can call us directly on our phones
or leave a message on the church phone message system.
We are checking the church phone messages often.
This is a strange time for our country.
The wise knew it was coming.
They have been saying for decades that a pandemic was overdue.
We can do this.
We are the church.
We care for one another and for the world.
I will end with a prayer for the human race
Which is in the prayer book on page 828
Jarell Jones used it to end our vestry meeting yesterday
O God our heavenly Father
You have blessed us and given us dominion over all the earth
Increase our reverence before the mystery of life
And give us new insight into your purposes for the human race
And new wisdom and determination
In making provision for its future
In accordance with your will
Through Jesus Christ our Lord
