NOTE: The only New Content this Week is in Father John Writes.
All the rest are reminders from prior week.
Christmas Lasts 12 Days!  The secular hype, the consumerism, the busyness begins to fade from Christmas as the world turns its gaze towards a new year. However, we continue reflecting because it is not just the new year but a new and more joyful life that we look forward to. God's choice to dwell on us has propelled us into an adventure of becoming that leads us into greater joy! Come this Sunday and hear how Jesus saw himself not just related to his kith and kin, but to all creation!

Also, do remember that the celebrations in the square New Year's Eve go to support Jeremiah's place. Dyann Beaty, Jorgene West, and Father John will be the hosts at the Holly Theatre musical venue. Come and say Hi!

Have a blessed week,
Father John+

THIS WEEK & UPCOMING
Road Clean-up This Saturday:  This Saturday, Dec 22, those interested and able are invited to meet at the church at 8:30 AM to help pick up trash on Hamp Mill Road, so our road will look well maintained in time for Christmas.  If we have enough volunteers, we'll also be able to work on a stretch of Oak Grove Road near the church. Please remember to wear sturdy shoes and work gloves. Orange vests for visibility and trash bags will be provided. Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday!  Michael Zose
2018 Contributions Reminder

Please remember that your 2018 pledge and other contribution to the church need to be received or postmarked no later than Dec. 31st for it to go on your 2018 annual contribution statement. Your support of the parish is much appreciated and together we proclaim God's word, celebrate God's love, and share God's gifts here in Dahlonega. Thank You!

ANNUAL PARISH MEETING
Sunday, Jan. 20th @ 11:30 AM
Vestry Nominations      After the call for nominations in the church service during the months of November and December the Nominating Committee has put forward two prospective vestry members to be voted on at the Annual Meeting January 20th, 2019. They are pleased to put forward Ben Wallace and Alice Moore Wherry.
Nominations are still welcome from the congregation. If you would like to nominate yourself, or someone else (with their approval), please send the information to the parish office at stelizabethdahlonega@gmail.com or call (706) 864-5423. Please also let Father John know. Please do this by January 11th.
The by-laws of the parish require the treasurer to authenticate that the nominee meets the qualifications. The nominee must be a confirmed member of the Episcopal Church, a member of the parish, and be 18 years or older. The nominees must be regular in attendance at the services of the church in the preceding year. They also must have made and maintained a financial contribution to the parish, known to the treasurer, in the year preceding the election.
Duties of the vestry person include, but are not limited to, the following: Attend the annual vestry retreat (This year Friday, Feb. 15th through Sunday Feb. 17th), attend monthly vestry meetings, serve as vestry person of the day on a rotating schedule, attend training sessions required by the diocese, serve as a liaison for one or more ministries or committees in the parish, and share responsibilities with the Rector for planning and for decisions that affect our corporate life. In general, carrying the mission of the Parish into action: "Proclaiming God's Word, celebrating God's love and sharing God's gifts."
This year we have space for two new vestry members. The vestry might consider increasing the size of the vestry by one person should another eager candidate come forward. Father John and the vestry are sensitive to the reality that In small parishes, such as our own elections, carry a greater risk of being hurtful.
MOBS & FABS News   The Men's Only Bible Study (MOBS) and the Females Alone Bible Study (FABS) are both on hiatus until January.
  • MOBS will begin on January 8th reading the gospel of Matthew.
  • FABS is planning to do a series on women in the Bible.
This would be a great year to start attending these hours of fellowship, prayer and study.
Would you like the Church to have your Emergency Contacts?

We are offering to the members of the congregation a service which we hope might be of service at some time of need. It is about being prepared for what we hope will not be needed. Members of the parish may give their emergency contacts to the church. (Only the wardens, parish administrator and priest will have access to them.)

Then, should the need arise for any emergency the parish could reach out to the ones you designate on your behalf if circumstances prevent you from doing so. You can mail in your contacts to the office if you would like to make use of this service.

Interested in serving behind the altar on Sundays?
We would love to have more Acolytes, Chalice Bearers, and Readers!

John

All Sunday Volunteers:
Your role in church services is necessary and well appreciated! Please, check schedules periodically. If you are unable to serve please find your replacement and notify any changes to: Melissa Lach via email: wmzlach@gmail.com.
