Happy New Year!

Father John Writes
Happy 6th Day of Christmas!

The tree in most homes has been moved to the trash. And people see Christmas as in the past. But for us we celebrate this feast for 12 days. Technically it is Christmastide, the season of Christmas, but it is a celebration of 12 days. We honor the joyous presence of the divine among us with twelve days of joy.  It compares to Easter when we celebrate Eastertide, the awareness that life and resurrection overcomes sadness and death, for 50 days!

On the flip side it is interesting to look at the time before the holidays. For those who follow the spiritual observance the four weeks before Christmas and the seven weeks before Easter are meant to be a time of reflection, meditation and inner preparation. Yet for the secular observance all the festivities of Easter and Christmas precede the holiday and replace the acknowledgement of the depth of life's meaning with business, activity, and distraction.

This contrast is a parable for the spiritual life as compared to the worldly secular life. The spiritual life enters the depth and has a joy flowing from the center. The worldly way jettisons looking below the surface and a skims along the surface of life. May we resolve not to be caught in the surface hype. Let us resolve that we will take time to reflect deeply on the wonder and sacred character of life, not delay it with business. And having dug this foundation let us celebrate the wonder of life with  season of joy, indeed with our whole lives. And better yet, let us learn to advocate with love and kindness the spiritual life to those thirsting for more.

Have a very Happy Christmas Everyone!
Father John

This Week

Transmission Rates in Lumpkin County exceed our benchmark. This Week
by a very great deal due, we think, to the omicron variant.

Based on the current contamination rates this week we will:
Recommend masks for all people, though we do not police.
We will sing using masks.
We can gather outside for fellowship after the service.

It is reasonable for people, especially upboosted persons,
to exercise extreme caution at this time.

Sunday's Worship at 10:30 AM

IN PERSON
If anyone has symptoms of any illness please refrain from coming to church. We will wear masks in the Service. There will be one designated singer in the ramp room.

FACEBOOK
The Sunday Service will live stream on Facebook at 10:30 AM

You do not need a Facebook account to see it.

If streaming is not good because of our Internet service
the video posted afterwards will usually be much better.

There will be NO ZOOM
this Sunday January 2
This may be a good option if you experience poor reception to our livestream
