Father John Writes . . .
Embracing the New Year  We all know the old joke. A person sees another person in a parking lot at night searching all around on the ground. "What are you looking for?" The searching person says, "I dropped my keys." Immediately they search together. They look around and around and do not find the keys. Finally the person asks, "Are you sure you dropped your keys here?" to which comes the reply, "Oh no, I dropped them over there, but the light is better here."

Most of us like a new year. We have hopes, aspirations, perhaps even dreams. Yet part of us has trouble coming to terms with the fact it will bring things we cannot see. We have hopes, aspirations, even dreams but the new year will be just that. It will bring new. There are things we want to hold on to, but we will need to let go. There are plans we have, but they may need to change in response to what the new year brings and we can go joyfully forward because we have decided to trust the divine. We may have an idea of the blessings we seek but the divine will have another plan, and I strongly suspect a better one for us to embrace. The New year asks us to search in places we cannot totally see except by faith. Christmas is God with us, and God is with us also when we embrace the new, the unknown.

Happy New Year and Continuation of Christmas Everyone!
See you in Church

The Presiding Bishop is leading a revival in Atlanta, Wednesday, January 22nd. If past events are any guide this will be an inspiring and energizing event. We are asked to invite friends to come and participate as we share the love of Jesus. It would be particularly appropriate for friends who have have a spiritual longing but have difficulty finding a spiritual community. Here is the link to the page where you can learn more and sign up.
