I hope that everyone is doing well. While these are challenging and uncertain times for us all, I have been deeply touched by the outpouring of creative resources and ways the community is forming connections in this time of social distancing.

Missing storytime? There are many authors, illustrators, and celebrities that are hosting digital storytimes. A selection of these can be found on our website's Families At Home Resources page.

We also have creative talent in our local Marin community!

Watch Miss Eliya, of the Sausalito Public Library's Wednesday Story Time, as she shares stories and songs on her YouTube channel Story Time with Miss Eliya.

Also, check out Lauren from the Mill Valley Public Library, who is recording and sharing storytimes. She has a fantastic song about handwashing!

Please feel free to e-mail me at jrandolph@sausalito.gov with resources you have found to be helpful and/or with requests for resources you need.

Okay for Now by Gary D. Schmidt
Gary D. Schmidt's Okay for Now, a companion book to The Wednesday Wars, follows Doug Swietek and his family. A fantastic coming-of-age novel set during the Vietnam War,  Okay for Now covers topics such as moving to a new city, domestic abuse, parental alcoholism, challenging sibling relationships, and the sacrifices of war. Schmidt does a fantastic job of balancing these heavy topics with humor. A well-written, thoughtful book with complex characters, even the antagonists in Doug's world reveal redeeming qualities. Doug's growing fascination with art, specifically John James Audubon's bird prints, provides him with healing from trauma and a purpose. A middle-grade read that leans more appropriate for teens, given some of its heavier content. Check it out on Overdrive today!
