John Sarno, MD changed the focus of chronic pain and illness to a common root cause - mental emotional stressors.

Despite his clinical success and the millions who have read his books, Dr. Sarno's ideas have still not been adopted by most of mainstream medicine. However there is a growing foothold of physicians who believe in and use Dr. Sarno's ideas to care for their patients.  Dr. Sarno has written extensively detailing his concepts and therapeutic ideas, starting with, Healing Back Pain. If you want a quick view of his life's work, check out this documentary at The Guild. Playing 6 pm only for the next three nights, starting today. Dr. Sarno passed away the day before his 94th birthday, and the day before the release of this documentary in 2017.

A nice article summarizing Dr. Sarno's theories on chronic pain and other diseases, written by an orthopedic surgeon: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/unlearn-your-pain/201707/john-sarno-md-american-hero
And the New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/23/science/john-sarno-dead-healing-back-pain-doctor.html  "Revered by some as a saint and dismissed by others as a quack, Dr. Sarno maintained that most nontraumatic instances of chronic pain — including back pain, gastrointestinal disorders, headaches and fibromyalgia — are physical manifestations of deep-seated psychological anxieties."

Be curious and be well, Dr. Karla
