Coronavirus (COVID-19) is confirmed in New Mexico now.

What to do? First, don't panic. We may want to cancel some plans for a while, reduce our travel and stress loads to both reduce exposure of ourselves and others and also to give our immune systems their best chance of warding off all disease at this time.

The basic takeaway of all the official guidelines is to use standard methods to prevent the spread of illness. See the information below on both the government's recommendations and naturopathic recommendations. Those most susceptible to developing severe illness or death from COVID-19 are people with COPD, diabetes, coronary heart disease, and the elderly if they have compromised immune systems. We need to protect these populations from exposure as best we can. The rest of us will probably do fine with minimal to moderate, non-life threatening symptoms if we were to become infected. Common symptoms of COVID-19: shortness of breath, cough, fatigue, weakness, exhaustion.

For those that prefer to listen and learn:
In the latest podcast from Natural Medicine Journal, they talk with immunologist and researcher Heather Zwickey, PhD, about the coronavirus and how infectious diseases take hold. They also discuss how patients can reduce their risk of coronavirus, as well as the ever-present cold and flu. Dr. Zwickey describes the practitioner’s role in helping to control disease spread and improve patient outcomes during an infectious outbreak. Listen now.

If you are wanting to restock on any nutrients or herbs, but don't want to come into the office, we can set you up to order items on-line. Xymogen is available at wholescripts.com using practitioner code: 'Salud.' Most other items are available on another site, fullscript.com, but we will need to invite you via e-mail to join.  For anything not available on there, Dr. Karla can make recommendations of alternatives she would recommend to mimic the quality and efficacy of your current products. Please notify us if you would like to be set up for on-line ordering - even if just for general convenience and nothing to do with coronavirus. Both of these sites do properly store items in air-conditioned warehouses and ship quickly with free shipping for orders over $50. Do let us know if it's not a rush so we can prioritize for whom to set up an account.

We will be out of the office this Friday, March 13, 2020. We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

Be well,

Dr. Karla Koch and Syrea Sosa
