Visions of Zealandia 2: the big idea - now on at Zealandia EcoSanctuary!

Hi <<First Name>>

I'm really quite overwhelmed by all the interest, support, and kind words I've received this week with the opening of my solo exhibition at Zealandia EcoSanctuary - many thanks to all of you who came out last night for a special viewing - it was such a treat to see you all and get so many hugs. Huge thanks also to Margot, Chris H, Andrew, Janice, Hannah, and Linton for all their support in helping me get it all together. (More info about the exhibition...)

And do sing out if you weren't able to make the opening but would like to meet up for a special viewing and/or a photo walk at Zealandia.

Chatting with Ed, Melissa, and Lauren at the special viewing last night.

Photo-art of a tūī amongst fern
It's tax time of year, but the silver lining is that it's also the time of year when I work out how much to donate to all the various wildlife organizations that you help support through the purchase of my art. For most of my pieces, I donate 10% of my proceeds (after gallery commissions and GST, but before costs) to the organizations associated with the critter in question. This year I was able to donate over $1300 to Zealandia EcoSanctuary, and smaller amounts to Kākāpo Recovery, World Parrot Trust, and Bird Life Australia. Thank you so much for helping me support the birds and support conservation through art. And this tūī in "Unfurling" was the biggest contributor. Who will it be next year? Will he get pushed off his perch? That's all up to you :)
Judi doing her Polly impersonation
Go behind the scenes with "Professor Polly" and find out what some of my motivation and inspiration was for this piece - and yes that's me doing my Polly impersonation! (Photo credit: Linton Miller).

And if you've ever seen one of my images and wondered "what on earth is that about???", feel free to drop me a line and I'll blog about it - there's usually something going on that might not be so obvious on the surface.
Researcher Aditi Sriram holds a kākā nestling
We're doing environmental portraits this week in the Art of Birding Photo Challenge - it's never too late to jump on in and join us as we explore different ways of using our photos for wildlife advocacy.

And check out this month's Artists Down Under magazine for some fabulous photos from recent challenges and some wonderful photo-art too.
Tūī photoart ("At what cost forever") featuring a tūī on a rātā vine
I've changed out my prints available at the Forest & Bird online store, with 4 different medium-sized tūī artworks. If you purchase prints through the site, you get to support the birds twice as not only do Forest & Bird receive a commission that goes towards their conservation efforts but I also donate 10% of my proceeds to Zealandia.

Here's an interesting opportunity for emerging NZ artists - a photo-art-friendly exhibition run by Creative Compass. I'll be helping out with the judging on photography and digital art entries. Entries are due by 13 July, so still some time to come up with some wonderful works to submit.
