Elie Wiesel was many things - a Nobel laureate, activist, adviser to world leaders, and the author of more than forty books, including Night. Melbourne Jewish Book Week is delighted to host Ariel Burger, Wiesel’s long-time teaching assistant, confidante and friend, in a special Melbourne event, Wednesday 28 August 7.30pm. Join Bram Presser, acclaimed author of The Book of Dirt, in conversation with Ariel Burger as they discuss Burger’s prize winning book, WITNESS Lessons from Elie Wiesel’s Classroom. Ariel Burger is featured in the Sydney Jewish Writers Festival.

Melbourne Jewish Book Week is pleased to be able to offer the opportunity to see Deborah Lipstadt in a special panel event at the Melbourne Writers Festival!

Deborah Lipstadt is perhaps best known for the libel lawsuit against her by David Irving, for calling him a Holocaust denier. She is Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish History and Holocaust Studies at Emory University, Atlanta and has published numerous books on the Holocaust and antisemitism. Her latest publication is Antisemitism Here and Now. Deborah Lipstadt will be appearing with Melbourne broadcaster and anthropologist Sally Warhaft, and Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission to discuss the rise of antisemitism and why it matters.

Go behind the scenes with contemporary international songwriters Chris Cohen, Noga Erez and Vivien Goldman as they reveal the workings of their practice, dissect their creative routines and discuss when to work within convention and when to rebel in this remarkable panel event Songwriters Speak. Moderated by Bram Presser, award winning author of The Book of Dirt and lead singer of Yidcore. This Festival of Jewish Arts and Music event is proudly supported by Melbourne Jewish Book Week and is included in the evening program.
