ANNOUNCING THE NEXT MJBW ONLINE EVENT

MJBW Winter Book Club:
The Believer: Encounters with Love, Death & Faith

Join us for our next seasonal Book Club session on Tuesday 13th July.

Sarah Krasnostein  multi-award winning author of The Trauma Cleaner — will be interviewed by journalist Meredith Lake about Sarah’s latest publication, The Believer, and her explorations into the fascinating and labyrinthine realm of belief.

In this beautifully crafted book, we learn how people respond in various ways to the world's complexities. Some surrender themselves to the unknown, others are dogged in their steadfast certainty and then there are those who open themselves up to the potential of human fragility and humility.

We would love to hear from you if you have read the book and have a question for Sarah and Meredith - simply register and be there during MJBW’s virtual book club on the night. Or just watch the event and read the book afterwards.

The Believer is available from The AvenueReadings, and Jeffreys bookstores.

We look forward to welcoming you.

This event is proudly supported by The Australian Jewish News.

About The Believer

Part memoir, part journalism and part philosophy, Sarah Krasnostein weaves together the stories of six extraordinary ordinary people in the human song of longing for the unattainable. The Believer looks at the stories we tell ourselves to deal with the distance between the world as it is, and the world as we’d like it to be. How they can stunt us – or save us.

Sarah Krasnostein is a writer. She is admitted to legal practice in Australia and America, and holds a doctorate in criminal law. She is the best-selling author of The Trauma Cleaner, which won the Victorian Prize for Literature, the Victorian Premier’s Prize for Non- Fiction, the Australian Book Industry Award for General Non-Fiction and the Dobbie Literary Award. It jointly won the Douglas Stewart Prize for non-fiction at the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards, was longlisted for the Walkley Book Award and was shortlisted for the National Biography Award, the Melbourne Prize for Literature and the Wellcome Book Prize (UK). Her work has appeared in a variety of publications and academic journals in Australia, the UK and America.

Meredith Lake is the presenter of Soul Search, on ABC Radio National, and an Honorary Associate of the Department of History at the University of Sydney. Her most recent book is The Bible in Australia: a cultural history (NewSouth), winner of the 2019 Prime Minister's Literary Award for Australian history, and the 2020 Adelaide Festival prize for Non-fiction.
