A MESSAGE FOR THE MJBW COMMUNITY AND BEYOND

The Board and Committee Members of Melbourne Jewish Book Week express their sympathies and send best wishes to everyone who has been affected by the recent conflict. This includes those in Australia who were worried for family members and friends. We will continue to provide events, both online and live, that will help to nourish those parts of us that need the greatest nourishment right now and in the future. In presenting writers and thinkers, we do so with our guiding principles which embrace  ‘To celebrate diversity and inclusivity within the Jewish and broader communities.’

Festival Director, MJBW

HAVE YOU BOOKED YOUR TICKETS
FOR A NIGHT OF STORYTELLING AND FAKERY?

FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT

Fake news, fake selves, fake living, authenticity, imposter syndrome. As a society we are obsessed with what is real and what is artifice. Stories have the ability to be an antidote, transcending these categories, but they might also lead us further into a fog of illusions.

Featuring eight fabulous Australian and international guests performing original commissioned pieces, led by the inimitable Ginger Gorman steering us through this haze.

Come along for a ride through the realms of reality and imagination.

MORE FROM OUR FABULOUS FABULISTS

Ginger Gorman
“Behind the wheel at the red light, I grabbed my mascara and I noticed that the name of the product was ‘Fake It’ - and this moniker, emblazoned on this little black tube, seemed like a message for life."
Elise Esther Hearst
“I tell her to keep all of it, because that is what a good person would do . . .”

Dennis Altman
"We used to think fiction exaggerated reality, but what happens when fiction blurs with our sense of reality and influences how we change the world?"

Deborah Conway AM
The least wretched life is lived when your goal is to aim for truth.”

Sam Duckor-Jones (NZ)
“Define reality to your neighbour and you will each come up with different answers."

Andrea Goldsmith
“Cleo, the muse of poetry and epic fiction, had always known about the power of fiction to expose, illuminate and generally bear truths."
Josh Cohen (UK)
“Can I get away with painting myself as the good guy? What’s at stake in trying to do that?”
Gigi Fenster (NZ)
One never loves anyone like ones own. But maybe we can try to pretend.
We find ourselves in Melbourne in lockdown once again. During this time we hope that you all stay safe, stay well and keep reading.
