What a joyful occasion to celebrate one of the 1st courses available when Portugal’s pioneering Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotel Studies was founded in Estoril, back in 1991!
Nearly three decades later, ESHTE is proud of the hundreds of professionals educated to improve the ranks of the knowledgeable ambassadors who host foreigners and nationals alike. Displaying linguistic, intercultural, interpretative and human skills, tourist guides help to unveil, promote and update Portugal’s brand image and key assets: its timeless Heritage & Identity.
Tourist guides were legally acknowledged in Portugal in the year of 1912. Currently, when mainly across Europe trained professionals strive to prove their valour over the liberalisation that dominates the Tourism sector, concerns on the education and skills of service providers must not be overlooked by governments, employers, or even clients.
Time will tell what the remainder of the 2010s will bring, and ESHTE shall not waver when it comes to prepare all its students to embrace and overcome the labour market’s challenges. A good example of that attentive practice is the celebration of the 2018 International Tourist Guide Day, celebrated with the hosting of a seminar on Technologies on behalf of Tourism Information.
This special edition of the #Tourism_Information online newsletter will introduce the reader to some alumni and teachers connected to these 27 years of ESHTE’s successful mission on educating skilled Tourism professionals.
A toast to ESHTE: Cheers!
