THURSDAY BIBLE STUDY - JUNE 4 AT 10:00 AM VIA ZOOM

We are studying The Pastoral Letters (1 and 2 Timothy and Titus) at our Thursday morning bible study. This week we will be looking in depth at 1 Timothy 6:3-10 and 1 Timothy 6:11-21. Here are some discussion questions that will guide our conversation.

Verses 3-10
  1. Have you ever known someone who acts like the person described in vss. 4-5. How does their behavior affect you? the rest of the community?
  2. What is the "great gain" in "godliness with contentment"?
  3. When have you been tempted to be a "lover of money"? Is there a difference between enjoying money and being a lover of money?
Verses 11-21
  1. What is Timothy told to flee from? What is he told to pursue? How does a person pursue these qualities?
  2. What spiritual struggles is Timothy going through? How similar to Timothy's are your struggles.
  3. If the Christian life is like a good fight, how are you doing: Still in training? Bobbing and weaving? Winded? Other?
  4. What is Paul saying to those who have plenty of money? (vs. 17-19)
  5. What kinds of "godless chatter" and "false knowledge" do Christians need to turn away from today? Which do you need to be especially cautious of?

Join us next Thursday (June 4) at 10:00 a.m. Here is the link you will need: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83322341114. You can also call  in: (346) 248- 7799     Meeting ID: 833 2234 1114

IN PERSON WORSHIP TO RESUME JUNE 7

We will begin in-person worship on Sunday, June 7 with one service at 9 a.m in the sanctuary. We will alternate between Rite 1 (no music) and Rite 2 (with Music). June 7 will be Rite 1. Our goal is to move to two services as soon as possible. Please be aware that we will adjust this date or consider re-closing, based on community spread of COVID-19. While it is exciting that the restrictions are being lifted, we do not want to be lulled into a false sense of security.

We have taken every effort to minimize the risk of spreading Covid-19, however we can not eliminate the risk. If you choose to attend in-person worship - you risk exposure to the virus. If you are in the "most vulnerable" category, feel sick, or simply don't feel comfortable worshiping in a confined space with other people, we will live stream the service via YouTube so you can participate in the service remotely in real time.

Live stream is also the perfect opportunity to invite your friends and family around the country to participate in our worship service.

THE GREAT HYMNS OF THE TRINITY
Cheryl Sanders

Surprisingly there are few hymns in our standard hymnal to the Trinity. One of the earliest ( mid 1700’s) is “Come, thou almighty King” long attributed to Samuel Wesley but the true author is unknown. This powerful hymn calls on the attributes of the Triune God to fill us. “Holy God, we praise your name” is. another Trinitarian hymn, taking up the Father, Son and Holy Spirit separately in verse, as does “Holy Father, great creator.“ I think of these as somewhat Creedal hymns.

The hymns that define Trinity for me though are “i bind unto myself “ and “ Holy, holy, holy”. These two celebrate gloriously the power of our Triune God. It’s great we have a long season to sing them! Enjoy singing these with the YouTube and listen for some of these, the next Rite II service!

BIRTHDAYS

None the week

Watch over your children, O Lord, as their days increase; bless and guide them wherever they may be. Strengthen them when they stand; comfort them when discouraged or sorrowful; raise them up if they fall; and in their hearts may your peace which passes understanding abide all the days of their lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ANNIVERSARIES

David and Jennifer Hawkinson (6/1), Rich and Linda Jones (6/4),
Alan and Misty Whitney (6/6)

O God, you have so consecrated the covenant of marriage that in it is represented the spiritual unity between Christ and his Church: Send therefore your blessing upon these your servants, that they may so love, honor, and cherish each other in faithfulness and patience, in wisdom and true godliness, that their home may be a haven of blessing and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

PRAYER LIST ADDITIONS

All those infected with COVID-19, Herman, Geneva, Katherine

Almighty God, giver of life and health: Send your blessing on all who are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness or any other adversity, and upon those who minister to them, that all weakness may be vanquished by the triumph of the risen Christ; who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer requests are kept in this list and in the prayers of the people until the end of any given month unless otherwise requested.
