Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! As we move forward into 2021, we are honored to continue the great work that was ignited by our donors and nonprofit partners last year.

Between March and December of 2020, our Disaster Support Fund awarded 65 grants totaling more than $500,000 to local agencies. To give to the continuous COVID-19 relief efforts, click here. While our office is currently closed to the public, we are still working hard to assist everyone with contributions, estate planning, answer questions, and meet with donors and professional advisors.

I look forward to providing resources to bolster the work of our selfless nonprofit partners and donors as we venture into a new year, together as a united community. From the words of National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman, "we lift our gazes not to what stands between us, but what stands before us."

With gratitude,

Spotlights and Highlights
Story of Impact • San Luis Obispo Food Bank
The San Luis Obispo Food Bank works diligently with community partners to alleviate hunger in San Luis Obispo County and build a healthier community. At the beginning of 2020, approximately 46,000 residents were struggling with hunger. Since the pandemic, hunger in SLO County has skyrocketed 154%, with children accounting for approximately one-third of those they serve. With the help of our generous donors, the SLO Food Bank received more than $228,000 from The Community Foundation in 2020 and has been able to feed our county at over 60 distribution sites and through 82 partner nonprofits on the front line of hunger relief.
Featured Donor • Cricket Handler

Over the past decade, Cricket Handler has been a wonderful supporter of The Community Foundation through her donor advised fund. Through her regular presence at our donor education series and her relationship with The Community Foundation, she has grown an understanding of the issues and needs of our community.
