"Hope and Fear cannot occupy the same space. Invite one to stay.” ~ Maya Angelou, author

Dear Friends-

Our communities here at home and across the country are experiencing unprecedented challenges. The recent public demonstrations over racial fairness and equity touch each of us who cherish these values. Amidst the challenges presented by the economic downturn and the impact of Covid-19 pandemic and new work, school and life realities, we must all work to hold fast to a belief in the promise of our community resiliency and hope for a better future for all of us.

But for hope to thrive, there has to be action. Through our Disaster Support Fund and many other grant programs like our Donor Advised Funds we have been able to commit over $500,000 to date in support to our community. Our grants are awarded weekly as we respond quickly to the emerging needs as they change while the crisis unfolds and continues.

Our grants during this time of crisis have given hope to so many: seniors who were without meals in their homes, farm workers who had lost jobs and access to much needed healthcare, to women struggling with fear for themselves and their children, mental health hot lines for those who are struggling and so much more. Thanks to you and so many across our community who have made contributions to our Disaster Support Fund we are able to bring hope to so many.

Working together with you and so many donors as well as our funding partners, First 5 San Luis Obispo County, Pacific Gas & Electric, and The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, we have responded to our community needs and will continue to be here - serving our community is what we do every day. We will continue to provide updates for you in the days ahead and welcome your thoughts and thank you for your continued support.

The path forward is not yet clear but we know that we, The Community Foundation family, will stand up for the values we hold true and will continue to rise to meet our communities needs.

We are indeed stronger together. Stay well and keep the hope.

With gratitude,

Messages of Appreciation

Shower the People
"Shower the People would not have been able to restart our shower program without the help of the Disaster Support Grant.  We had to change our protocols, restructure our site layouts and add a lot of PPE in order to start offering showers to the homeless in this COVID-19 environment. The Community Foundation Disaster Support Fund money was both badly needed and timely and allowed us to quickly reopen our free shower program for the homeless in our community."
Gwen Watkins, Shower the People Volunteer

Community Counseling Center
"The Foundation’s disaster funding is pivotal to the sustainment and progression of the groundbreaking teletherapy/telehealth system that CCC has implemented in order to meet the needs mental health counseling needs of clients during COVID-19."
