"Could anything be better than waking up every day knowing that lots of people are smiling because you chose to impact lives, making the world a better place." ~ Anyaele Sam Chiyson

Dear Members of The Community Foundation Family,

During our year of celebrating our 20th anniversary, we are reminded of the many ways that our community comes together to improve the lives of our neighbors, local programs and our beautiful environment. From providing grants to youth programs that empower and inspire children, to awarding scholarships to high school graduates to help them pursue their dreams in higher education, to connecting donors with programs that fulfill their philanthropic interest.

In 20 years the Foundation has provided more than 6,000 grants that have provided almost $3.5 million in funding across San Luis Obispo County and beyond. Each day we hear stories of lives that are changed by our grants and the work of the non-profits that we collaborate with.

Of course, it its our community members that make this county the wonderful place that it is. While we celebrate 20 years of impact we celebrate YOU, our trusted friends and family. Thank you for making a difference!

Warmly,

Accepting Grant Proposals
Proposals are currently being accepted from local non-profits for the BUILD, Klaproad Basic Needs and Opportunity to Thrive Grant Programs. Awards will be presented in late November.

BUILD Grant Program

The primary goal of the BUILD (building unity, infrastructure, leadership and development) Grant Program is to provide funding for agencies with a budget of less than $300,000. The Foundation aims to strengthen nonprofit organizations with smaller operating budgets by supporting their efforts in building capacity and improving infrastructure.

Klaproad Basic Needs Grant Program

The Foundation established the Hugo and Erna Klaproad Fund in 2009, through a generous bequest from the Klaproads, former Oceano residents.  The objectives of the Klaproad Basic Needs Grant Program areto provide for the immediate needs of the homeless in the Five Cities/South SLO County area, expand and strengthen the existing services for the homeless in the Five Cities, and to support a continuum of services for South County homeless which stabilizes and moves them into housing.

Opportunity to Thrive Intitiative Fund

Through a testamentary gift, Ron Dunin and his wife Helen established an endowment to help people who are attempting to help themselves. Grants are intended to support individuals striving for self-sufficiency and who are in need of transitional assistance to overcome a short-term or one-time barrier. Of particular interest are individuals who are in transition, e.g. foster youth exiting the system, women leaving domestic violence shelters, families at risk of homelessness, individuals completing rehabilitation, re-entry into the workforce.
