"Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world..." ~ Howard Zinn

Dear Members of The Community Foundation Family,

With the fires raging across our state, our hearts and thoughts are with those impacted by this ever growing disaster.  We are in touch with our other community foundations and nonprofit agencies to insure that our support is directed to those most in need.  Thanks to the generous support of so many across San Luis Obispo we are already deploying resources to these areas.  During this time of need we are reminded of the caring nature of our community and how we must always take care of one another.

During this season of thanks I am ever mindful of you, our Foundation family, and the commitment you have to improving the lives of those who live, work and love our communities.  Wishing you and yours a most thoughtful and relaxing Thanksgiving.

Warmly,

Donations to the fund will provide both immediate relief and support rebuilding and recovery efforts in the aftermath of the fire.
Grants from the fund will be distributed to nonprofit agencies and organizations directly assisting individuals to meet needs as they arise and to deploy resources where they are most needed.

The Community Foundation has waived all administrative fees and 100% of your donation will be used to make grants to agencies supporting emergency assistance, health and human services, short-term housing/rental assistance, reimbursement of equipment and supplies, and other immediate relief or long-term recovery support for affected residents.

20th Anniversary Celebration
20 Years of ImpactThe Community Foundation celebrated 20 years of meaningful impact in San Luis Obispo County on October 28, 2019 at the historic Santa Margarita Ranch. We were joined by founders, current and past board and committee members, nonprofit agencies, donors and other community members in showing of support of philanthropic leadership for our communities. Click HERE to view photos from the event.

In 20 years the Foundation has provided more than 6,000 grants that have provided almost $3.5 million in funding across San Luis Obispo County and beyond. We are honored to work with so many passionate and generous individuals and organizations who also want to improve lives across the community. Created by and for the people of San Luis Obispo County, the Foundation is an enduring source of charitable funds to meet the changing needs and interests of the community. Here's to the next 20 years of impact!

Women's Legacy Fund Luncheon
We were so pleased to have nearly 700 concerned SLO County residents attend the Women's Legacy Fund Luncheon on September 27th to celebrate empowering women and girls in San Luis Obispo County through grants of more than $350,000 to date.

Our keynote speaker Ted Bunch from A CALL TO MEN captivated and inspired our audience. His message was that the underlying causes of violence and discrimination against women are rooted in the ways women and girls have been traditionally viewed and treated in our society. Men are socialized to view women as objects, the property of men and of less value than men. Our society needs to do more to change these perceptions and challenge these social norms. Together, we can make a difference.

Thank you for your continued support of this important fund!

The Community Foundation Blog: Leaving a Legacy
The Community Foundation works to enhance the quality of life of all residents of San Luis Obispo County by focusing on the needs of the residents. We do this by supporting local nonprofits; helping people donate money strategically; and building endowments for future generations of San Luis Obispo County residents. Donors can make the biggest impact on our community by setting up a Donor Advised or Testamentary Fund. A wonderful example of making a lasting impact was very generous bequest from Hugo and Erna Klaproad to serve the homeless in our county. To learn more about their impact read our blog.
