April 7, 2021
Dear Friends,

Spring is officially here, and with it comes the Spring General Grant Cycle. We are honored
to have awarded $548,400 to 77 nonprofit partners throughout our region. These awards
pushed the amount distributed to those in need to over $1.3 million since the start of the

This year’s grant cycle represents more for many of our nonprofits than in the past—it is a
necessary financial resource and a symbol of hope for the future. This half a million dollars
awarded through the Spring Grant Cycle is in addition to the $620,000 given to nonprofit
partners through the Disaster Support Fund.

I could not be more proud of the work our Community Foundation Family and all of you
have done to help us continue to make an impact throughout San Luis Obispo County. The
Community Foundation's work has not wavered through these trying times, and we will
always support our nonprofit partners, as they are vital to our community's ability to recover
and thrive.

With gratitude,

Heidi H. McPherson

Story of Impact • San Luis Obispo Repertory Theater

Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, the San Luis Obispo Repertory Theater has worked diligently to continue connecting with the community. While being closed for the past year, they host a weekly online talk show named "The Intermission Show" to showcase local plays and provide entertainment for San Luis Obispo County. Through the Spring General Grant Cycle, SLO Repertory Theater was awarded $10,000 to upgrade their donor database and ticket management system in preparation for reopening this summer or fall.
Featured Donor • Joe Benson

Joe Benson, a partner with Carmel & Naccasha and current President of the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association, recognized the lack of equity in legal and law enforcement professions. In 2020, he decided it was time to act and created the SLOCBA Endowed Scholarship at The Community Foundation in October 2020 to promote opportunities for local students of color to pursue education and careers in those fields.
As the fund continues to grow, a 2021 scholarship for $2,000 will be awarded in May and the SLO County Bar Association hopes to award multiple scholarships or multi-year scholarships in the future. Through Joe's dedication for this project, seven students applied for the 2021 scholarship. Of those, six will be the first in their families to attend college and six applicants are female.
