“Are you tired?  Worn out?  Burned out on religion?  Come to me.  Get away with me and you’ll recover your life.  I’ll show you how to take a real rest.  Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it.  Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.  I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.  Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”     Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)

Hi Everyone!

I am writing this newsletter from the big comfy grey couch in my parent’s living room.  The FIFA World Cup is on TV, vanilla cakepops are cooling in the freezer, and I've got a really big smile on my face.

It’s good to be home.

These past few weeks in Miami have been so refreshing.  This is the first time (in a long time) that I’ve been able to rest.  I tend to be good at working and bad at resting - so God is teaching me, and it’s been wonderful.  While home thus far, I had the opportunity to celebrate my grandparent’s 60th wedding anniversary, bask in the hot Miami sun, attend my cousin Debra’s beautiful wedding, and annoy the heck out of my not-so-little brother (fun fact: he snores, but don't tell him I told you).  Overall, it’s been a really sweet time that my entire being desperately needed.

I’ll be leaving Miami to fly back to South Africa on July 6th.  So please keep this final week of family time in prayer as I prepare to head back!

In the meantime, enjoy scrolling down and reading up on all of my SoFlo adventures from June!
60 years married!  How amazing is that?

My grandparents are my role models (they are also superheroes, like Batman but better), and their marriage is an inspiration to me.  The love that they have for each other is sweet and selfless; it reminds me of the famous "love" chapter in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.  If any humans on Earth can understand and exemplify agape love - it's them.

To celebrate their anniversary, my family and I took my grandparents on the Jungle Queen!  (For those of you who are not South Florida natives, the Jungle Queen is a short day/sunset cruise that takes you down a river in Ft. Lauderdale past some gorgeous mansions that none of us can afford to a small island where you party with some monkeys and parrots for a few hours.  Once you get to the island, you eat some delicious BBQ and enjoy an evening comedy show!)  We had a blast!
A big congratulations to my beautiful cousin Debra and her new husband, Austin!

Debra and Austin got married on June 23rd at the Bonnet House on Ft. Lauderdale beach.  It was stunning, and we just managed to avoid the rain (thank you, Jesus!).  The whole family came together to celebrate this special day; I am so glad that I was able to be a part of it.  Out of all the “cousins,” Deb was the first one to break the ice and get married, so my sister and I made sure to take lots of notes! (My sister Melissa also happened to be Debra’s Maid of Honor and she did great!)  It ended up being an incredible weekend full of family bonding, laughter, joy, gratitude, and love.

Congrats Deb and Austin!
My first grad school class is “done and dusted!”

And our prayers from last month have been answered!  This June I was able to pay the tuition for my second Professional Counseling course which is starting on July 2nd!  My next course is called (*takes a deep breath in) Orientation to Professional Counseling Identity and Function.  Whew.

I got a jumpstart on reading my textbook for this course, and I am already so excited to dig into the content!  I will be learning all about the definitions and foundations of Christian Counseling, multiple counseling methods and models, and various counseling specialties (such as crisis intervention, child/marriage and family therapy, and sex therapy).  It’s going to be a heavy workload, but I am ready for the challenge!

Please pray for me as I study hard to grasp the material and put it into practice.  Also, pray that God will use this masters degree for His glory as I go deeper into ministry to better serve, disciple, and love those around me.
