All you need to know about waste and recycling at Christmas
Our Christmas webpages are here to help you have a green and low-waste Christmas, packed with information about recycled gift ideas, fun alternatives to wrapping paper and tips to help reduce food waste.

Here are a few to get you started:
Bad weather can sometimes result in delays, so don’t worry if your bin isn’t collected due to these special circumstances, we will soon catch up with collections!
1000 Beautiful Birds of Peace
Once again this Christmas, we have been engaging with the young people of Suffolk to encourage and celebrate re-use and recycling in Suffolk. The response to this year’s ‘Beautiful Birds of Peace’ recycling project has been truly amazing with 31 schools, a library, a brownie and a guide group taking part, sending in more than 1700 birds in total (700 more than the 1000 target!). We would like to send a huge thank you to all the schools and groups that took part and helped make it such a success. We couldn’t do it without you!

The birds are now hanging in all their splendour upstairs at the Apex, Bury St Edmunds (until mid-Jan) and in Ipswich Town Hall café/gallery (until 9th Jan). They really are well worth a visit.

All schools were entered into a draw to win a £50 gardening voucher and this year's winner, Priory School from Bury St Edmunds, will be presented with their prize on 19 Dec by Suffolk Waste Partnership chair Cllr David Bowman.

You can find a full list of participating schools and see the full gallery here.
Recycling Centre Opening at Christmas
Because Christmas Day falls on a Monday this year, Suffolk's Recycling Centres  will be closed for 3 consecutive days over the Christmas period: Mon 25, Tues 26 and Weds 27 December as well as New Year's Day.
That means that sites may be very busy on the days in between, so remember to pre-sort your waste before you visit and recycle as much as possible in your household recycling bin.  During bad weather, please check @suffolkHWRC for any site closures before you go. Winter o
pening hours are 9am - 4pm.
