Thank you for subscribing to our monthly Peacemaker e-News. I'm just getting the hang of MailChimp so please be patient with me. This one is going to look rather plain I'm afraid.
In case you were not able to be with us on Saturday the launch of Peacemaker Mediators was a long time coming but I think on reflection, worth the wait. You will find commendations from some of our Board of Reference, our mission focus, history and future priorities all on the website www.peacemakers.ngo .
There are also links to some resources on peacemaking. If you have suggestions for additional content please let me know. And if you took any photos at the launch please let me have copies.
Canon Chris Sugden - Church of England Newspaper
Canon Chris Sugden, a member of our Board of Reference, wrote an article about the charity launch for the Church of England Newspaper. It was published today.
"Peacemaker Mediators (www.peacemakers.ngo) was launched on Saturday May 6 at Christ Church Virginia Water. It aims to be a catalyst for peacemaking, especially where minorities are persecuted, where justice is denied, human rights are suppressed or reconciliation is needed. The director, the recently retired vicar of Christ Church, the Rev Stephen Sizer, wants to work with other peacemaking charities, with a specific role of dealing with causes not consequences." Richard Bewes - A Personal Commendation
Richard Bewes, also a member of our Board of Reference, was sadly unable to attend the launch because of ill-health. However, he provided this short video commendation which was shown on Saturday.
For such a time as this
Many charities do superb work ameliorating the consequences of war and conflict, in caring for refugees, the wounded, the bereaved and orphaned. Peacemakers will instead help address the causes. We aspire to be catalysts for peacemaking, especially where minorities are persecuted, where justice is denied, human rights are suppressed or reconciliation is needed. Our vision is of a world reconciled to God and where its people are at peace with one another.
Peacemakers is a Faith Ministry
Peacemaker Mediators is a faith ministry. By the grace of God, we are entirely dependent on your prayers, your advocacy and financial support. In the months to come we are not going to go on about money. We intentionally didn't mention how much we need at the launch, or what our aspirations are. God knows. As we launch the charity we are praying that sufficient funds are raised to sustain the charity so that we can focus on our mission priorities and respond to the invitations coming in to partner with projects sharing our charitable purposes. These already include requests from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, DRC, Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan. If you intend contributing financially, whether regularly or with a one-off gift, please visit https://peacemakers.ngo/give where a range of ways are outlined.
Your Prayers Appreciated
Your prayers are especially appreciated as I prepare to travel to North Africa on Sunday. I am teaching in a state university and then preaching in an Anglican church on Sunday week. The Christian community in North Africa is very small but growing.
And if you know of friends who might be interested, please encourage them to visit the website and sign up for the e-News.
