Dear Friends,

Kids poured out of the school as we pulled in the gates at KDS on Monday morning. They surrounded our vans chanting "Ginger, Ginger!" to welcome Ginger Palm, their American "mama," the president and CEO of Kenya Children's Fund. As we climbed out, they broke into praise songs. While we walked through the courtyard up to the school, they sang and danced and clapped and sang some more. What a welcome we received! Click here to watch a short clip.

After our enthusiastic musical welcome, the kids were ushered into class while we were introduced to KDS staff in the primary school office. Evans, the interim principal of the primary school, gave us a tour of the campus. We visited classrooms from nursery up though 8th grade. In each classroom, we introduced ourselves to the kids and they sang a song for us. Watch them singing!
This is the seventh grade classroom. Can you spot our sponsored child, Ryan? He is three desks back from the front to the right of the aisle.

During our tour, we were also introduced to the KDS kitchen staff who prepare breakfast and lunch for all the students. They make porridge for breakfast and other nutritious meals for lunch. Later in the week we got to hear a testimony from a recent KDS graduate named Ruth. She told us that before she came to KDS, she and her siblings ate only once a day. “Imagine eating breakfast for the first time,” she said as she described her experience at KDS.

We also met Jane, the school nurse who services all the students and their families. She sees an average of 600 patients every month. She has a gentle and quiet spirit and we loved hearing her talk to us about the health conditions at the school during one of the staff forums on Wednesday.
When students and staff talk about KDS, they say that it's not just a school, it's a family. It's hard to understand what that means until you come to KDS and see the ministry in action. The love and care in this community is so evident. Every day we're more and more impressed by the work that God is doing in and through the KDS family. We can't wait to tell you more about it.
