Highlights - West Africa Students in geosciences share their research to the public online

West African Students in Geosciences are encouraged to present their research project online to gain visibility, and share their research achievements to the public. This month, Cheikh Amadou Bamba NIANG (UCAD, Senegal) has launched the student website of this outreach project:

Field work

Alain Kouamelan (UFHB), Joseph Brou (UFHB), Marieke Van Lichtervelde (IRD/IFAN) and David Baratoux (IRD/IFAN) will achieve the first campaign of acquisition of "LIBS" (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy) data in West Africa on samples from the region of Issia (pegmatites, placers, strategic metals), from the 26th of April to the 3rd of May. The portable LIBS has been made available for a test by the SciApps society.

Funding opportunities

The International Laboratory "MINERWA" for Responsible Mining in West Africa was not listed in the pre-selected project. An information meeting will be organized as soon as the projet leaders will get precise feedbacks from IRD regarding the reasons of this decision and the recommendations for the future.
