UNCW announces all unvaccinated students must participate in surveillance testing, change from previous guidance

Near UNCW announced on Tuesday that all unvaccinated students who live on campus or attend face-to-face classes, along with unvaccinated faculty and staff members, must complete weekly surveillance testing starting Aug. 23. This was a change from previous university guidelines that only required residential students to submit to surveillance testing. The announcement came as an emailed message from Chancellor Jose Sartarelli amid university efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and preserve a typical fall semester.


The Historic Wilmington Foundation honors Preservation Month with slate of new projects

This past May, many organizations across the nation celebrated Preservation Month, an annual holiday dedicated to honoring America’s build history. The Historic Wilmington Foundation began the month by releasing a focused preservation plan during a press conference on May 12 in honor of the occasion.


WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men’s basketball team released its 2021-2022 schedule Wednesday afternoon. After a 7-10 record in the shortened 2019-2020 campaign, Takayo Siddle will look to take a step forward in his second season as head coach.

The Seahawk slate features 16 conference games, 14 home contests and 31 matchups in all. However, three games in particular jump off the page as the season draws closer.

Two of the most prominent facets of our government and our very existence are the Bill of Rights and First Amendment. Bandied about as the fabric of being, the outward facing embodiment of our freedom as Americans. It is one of our most notable achievements as a nation. It is also one of the most grossly misunderstood concepts in our nation.

OPINION: Madison Cawthorn should be doing more to help the disabled community

The average disabled person has to overcome a plethora of barriers and inequalities to survive let alone thrive in this world. These include transportation, navigating the government’s bureaucracy, getting the proper aid, and last but not least challenging people’s perceptions in hopes to be seen as normal. However, individuals like North Carolina Republican Rep. Madison Cawthorn, who is paralyzed, are privileged enough to have the resources and connections to live a normal life. So, as a public official with his platform, he should be advocating for his fellow disabled citizens in North Carolina rather than magnifying white nationalist rhetoric which ultimately excludes him due to his disability.
