Chancellor Sartarelli to retire in June

UNCW Chancellor Jose Sartarelli will retire in June according to an email sent to faculty, staff and students on Friday. The email included a personal statement from the chancellor as well as a commemorative summary of his accomplishments since he took office in the summer of 2015.

“I already know that my wife Kathy and I won’t say good-bye when we depart next summer. Instead, we will say, wings up, Seahawks! Set your sights on new heights and keep soaring,” Chancellor Sartarelli said. With noteworthy accomplishments under his belt and years of commitment, Chancellor Saratelli’s farewell statement to the campus implied no regret.

2021 Ultimate Halloween Watchlist

It’s October and you know what time it is—the Halloween watchlist is back and updated. If you’re looking for spooky shows and films for every night this month, this list has you covered. This year, we have organized the list based on streaming services, since the only thing scarier than a haunted house is finding out your favorite Halloween movie isn’t on a streaming service you own. At the end, we have also included some free movies that everyone can enjoy, no matter what side you’re on in the streaming wars.

CULTURE

Former Seahawk pitcher Landen Roupp has always been known as a ‘good-ole country boy’ during his time at UNCW. However, Roupp’s routine of hunting and fishing took a bit of a turn after his recent promotion with the San Jose Giants.

“Cali is much different than what I’m used to, but it’s a pretty cool change,” Roupp said. “I’m used to the farm towns and stuff like that, but I’m enjoying the change to a city.”

Last week, The Seahawk published an article that was incorrect. We reported that an on-campus screening was scheduled despite restrictions on events and reservations. By the time of publication, student organization leaders had been notified that they could, in fact, reserve campus spaces again. Not only did we get that part wrong, but the article’s tone led some of the event’s organizers, particularly members of the Black community, to feel unfairly singled out or blamed for wrongdoing they did not commit. The article has since been corrected and updated.

UNCW parking goes virtual this year, but students say there are still problems to fix

This semester parking services’ enforcement and technology use evolved to meet the demands of the university’s growing pains, but student and staff opinions on the shift oscillate between criticism and acceptance. With this year’s expansion of the university and a record-breaking enrollment, parking services reinvented how parking operates on campus.

UNCW announced that this semester boasted a new record for the number of students enrolled at the university. With the largest student body in 74 years, parking availability and parking services were updated to meet demands.
