Out-of-state students to see potential tuition increase next year

On Tuesday Nov. 9, the Student Government Association met to discuss a potential 3% increase to tuition plans for out-of-state students. UNC Wilmington changed to a per-credit-hour tuition rate this fall. This change was approved for all UNC system universities through the Campus-Initiated Tuition Increases Committee. Further changes to the out-of-state tuition plan are now being discussed.

REVIEW: UNCW's 'The Christians' is a modern debate of morality and religion

Morality, life, death and hell are in balance in the UNCW theatre department’s production of “The Christians.” The playwright, Lucas Hnath, has shaped each character to have their own questions about religion and their own set of religious beliefs that drives their character’s moral values.

UNCW men’s basketball (0-1) let Tuesday’s season-opener slip away as they suffered a 68-63 loss at Illinois State.

With just five minutes left in the first half, the Seahawks held a 27-12 lead over the Redbirds (1-0) with no signs pointing to a final 25-minute meltdown by the Hawks.

The Redbirds’ comeback was led by Antonio Reeves who finished the contest with 29 points, shooting 5 for 8 from three.

With the start of a new semester, both new and returning on-campus students moved into their new housing assignments excited for an in-person experience, the first for some since the pandemic’s initial outbreak. The delta variant continues to threaten that hope, but campus life has persisted in spite of it, allowing a sense of normalcy to return to the college environment. However, an unexpected beast arose in this perfect storm of returners—namely, the wildly oversaturated parking situation on campus.

UNCW OneCard to switch to mobile application

On Nov. 2, the Student Government Association met to discuss changing the OneCard system from a physical card to a mobile ID.

According to director of Auxiliary Services Gino Galutera, the changes to OneCard will replace the physical card to a mobile ID allowing faculty, staff and students to have continued full range of transactions, including dining and building access. The planned changes to OneCard would allow users to add their OneCard to existing applications such as Apple Wallet and Google Pay.
