Hi Indivisible Member,
Our schools shape our community

Howard County is redrawing school district boundaries-
you can speak up for equitable redistricting that values all children.
Our Council Representatives Need Our Support
County Council members Christiana Rigby, Opel Jones and Deb Jung put forward a resolution
calling on HCPSS to desegregate schools.  They are getting slammed by critics, some of who use openly racist words and images to oppose the suggestion of integration. If we stay silent, those voices will define Howard County.

Please email THIS WEEK and say you support CR112-2019. If you can, sign-up to give supportive testimony at the *September 16th* County Council hearing by visiting

Help turn Virginia Blue!
September 14 - Canvassing
The entire Virginia state legislature is up for election this fall. If Democrats flip 3 seats we can prevent further Republican gerrymandering and voter suppression after the 2020 census. Joshua Cole is a great candidate who almost won in 2017 - come knock doors in Stafford and let people know about him.  1st time - no problem, we'll pair you with an experienced canvasser.  Carpool meets at Columbia Mall Barnes and Noble patio at 8 am, Sept 14. Email to sign up/ask questions.

Reject the ICE Money Grab
Call your Member of Congress right now and demand that they reject ICE’s attempt to steal money from other agencies. It is unacceptable that ICE is subverting Congress’s authority to decide how much funding they should receive. Equity In Redistricting Forum sparks thoughtful discussions
Congratulations to our Education Action Team and speakers Jacky McCoy and Richard Kohn, for a highly successful public forum on Tuesday.  The goal of the event was to encourage people to testify before the Board of Education or write emails/letters supporting equity as a consideration for redistricting.  Speaking to a packed room of over 90 people, including a number of elected officials and a TV crew, McCoy and Kohn guided the audience through an evidence based discussion of the reality and impact of inequity on children in Howard County, and then through a data driven analysis of how different factors interact for redistricting.  One important point made is that, although every redistricting plan requires tradeoffs, we are currently busing children farther distances in order to INCREASE segregation by income among Howard County schools - so we could improve equity just by letting kids go to the closest schools.  The presentation slides will be available on the Indivisible website next week.  TV coverage is here.
