Happy Birthday USA!

Come celebrate Independence Day by wearing your Indivisible t-shirt and walking with other people who believe in democracy and are willing to fight for it!  The 49th annual Longfellow Friends of the Traditional 4th Parade will take place on Thursday, July 4th, rain or shine, at 10:00 am.  Line-up begins at 9:15 am in the parking lot of the Longfellow Elementary School, 5470 Hesperus Drive, Columbia, MD 21044.  All are welcome to participate, or just come and watch.  No advance registration.

The Supreme Court just voted to uphold partisan gerrymandering.
This week the Republican-appointed members of the Supreme Court decreed that partisan gerrymandering is fine by them.  This means winning state elections is the only way to protect the right to equal representation.  In Virginia, which votes THIS NOVEMBER, we are just a couple of seats shy of a majority in both houses of the legislature.  If we flip a few seats in both bodies this year, Democrats will be the ones who control the post-census redistricting process in Virginia.  Otherwise the Republicans will deprive Democrats of the right to equal votes for the next decade.

Here is what you can do:
1. Sign up to write postcards to let newly registered voters in swing districts know that they have great Democratic candidates to vote for.  Email with "Virginia Postcards" in the Subject line to sign up.
2. Register voters in Virginia on July 20th.  Email with "Virginia Voter Registration" in the Subject line to sign up.
3.  Donate to Virginia candidates by visiting

Democratic Party Debates Watch Parties
Took Place All Over The Country!
IndivisibleHoCoMD sponsored Democratic Debate Watch Parties at Glory Days Grill on June 26 and 27 to enjoy the wonderful field of candidates from which we can choose to support.  39 and 23 people attended each night and much was learned about the candidates that made it to the stage.  See the results of the straw poll of participants here:

This was democracy in action and a great exercise for an informed electorate.  Onward to the next debates!
