Welcome to February's Blog

Apologies for the delay with this months topic, I have been struggling with a flu thing, which resulted in my head being total mince and having to take some time off.

This month the focus is #Press4Progress

March the 8th is International Women's Day and the theme 'the balance for better campaign'. I do encourage you to check out what's going on in your area and or to organise something would be fantastic, and remember the campaign runs all year not just on the one day.

In January I attended The Fist Ministers National Advisory Council For Women and Girls. The message is that men and women need to work together to achieve equality, and we need to be empowered to do so. Music to my ears. However plenty more on the 11 recommendations which I encourage you to share with your workplace.

Breaking News: Check out Stobo Castle Health Spa. I met with co owner Mandy Wynyard and she has agreed to hire out the Stobo Park Lodge for a How Dare She Retreat. Awesome!!

To finish this months topic I have included a video of poet Ellen Renton. Ellen read 3 of her poems at the First Ministers meeting and I was overcome by how beautiful and poignant they were. I hope you enjoy her style as much as I do.  Ellen herself is on a personal #press4 progress, as dispels the  misconceptions around albinism. (Click on the Ellen's link to learn know more)

Look out for events, such as retreats and panel discussions and don’t forget to invite me into your organisation to provide a talk, or programme bespoke to your needs!

 #PressforProgress in 2019?
Heather's Muse.
Wow what a month January has been for me. January19 has not followed the usual grinding and frustrating ‘31day’ formula, which had always succeeded in giving me far too much time to ask myself  if I was making any progress with this business of mine.
On top of which my annual meeting with Mr Accountant is scheduled, where I sit at a big oak desk and he asks kindly, “ how do you see your business performance this financial year Heather?”
The fear creeps in and the gremlins get to work...……..
Get Your Magic Back- Believe
Is your workplace culture holding back your #progress?

Rigid workplace cultures are holding back employees, says ILM

New research suggests employers should adapt to get the most out of today’s workforce.

More than half of UK workers feel that both the structure and culture of their workplaces are holding them back from doing their job more effectively (55% and 53% respectively).

That’s according to new research from ILM, the leading provider of leadership and management qualifications in the UK, which is launching a new report calling for workplaces across the UK to foster a more collaborative culture in order to boost business success.

More than a third (34%) of UK employees say they work in a regulated and controlled structure. When asked how they’d like to change their company culture, the top answer was more freedom and flexibility (35%) followed by more innovation and creativity (32%). Three quarters (74%) of employees say they would like more freedom at work.

Although employers tend to agree with the need for teams to have more freedom, with two in five (40%) saying they’d like a more flexible culture, more would prefer to champion innovation and creativity (46%), indicating a disconnect between the way that businesses and their people are keen to work.

Our Manifesto

For generations, our history has been written by one gender.
One perspective, one vision,
one half of the population.
Half of history is missing.
For years, we've been striving for change.
But now is the time to change for good.
To design a future where gender inequality is a historical curiosity.
With the voice of everyone we want
to create a Scotland where we're all
equal-with and equal future.

Together we are generation equal.

Everyone has a part to play - all the time, everywhere.

From grassroots activism to worldwide action, we are entering an exciting period of history where the world expects balance. We notice its absence and celebrate its presence.
