Brother <<Last Name>>,

Good Things Are Happening

Brothers, good things are happening this Fall in Ithaca!
First and foremost, our undergraduate brothers continue to demonstrate a deft touch in recruitment efforts, following up last spring’s incredible seventeen-member pledge class with an eleven-member pledge class this Fall semester.  These eleven men are in the middle of the new member education program and will be initiated in the next couple of weeks.  We look forward to sharing pictures and bios of our new brothers in our next email.
This Fall’s rush cycle was a bit less restrictive than last year’s as the university allowed for in-person events for the first time since the pandemic began.  Invitation-only events including poker nights and weekend football watching allowed the brothers to show off our Grey Stone Castle to prospective rushes.  The recruitment numbers demonstrate the hard work and dedication that the actives have put into their recent recruitment efforts and highlights the continued draw of the Lodge at 13 South Avenue as a desirable on campus living option for current university students.  What is even more promising is the focus the brothers are placing on the recruitment culture of the house, including the development of standardized tools and processes for rushing prospective members that can be passed down from generation to generation of Cornell Dekes in the years to come.
These exceptional recruiting efforts by undergraduates have not gone unnoticed, both on and off campus.  Discussions with DKE International and the Cornell Greek Life Office about re-chartering the Delta Chi chapter and achieving university recognition are gaining increased traction.  The DX Alumni Association is seeing a resurgence in alumni participation and engagement with the chapter, both through increased interest in the daily activities of our DKE brothers and in financial contributions toward the maintenance of our 128-year-old chapter house.  All of this activity allows for more robust planning around the future of DKE at Cornell, especially when it comes to the long-term maintenance of our beloved chapter house.
Due to the continued financial generosity of all of you, our DKE alumni, we have been able to continue to finance projects to improve the house this Fall semester.  We recently completed an important project to repair, replace, and paint external wood surfaces on the north, east and south faces of the house (including the south porch).   Next summer we hope to complete a similar wood replacement and painting project on the western front of the house, make long needed repairs to the library chimney, and begin a multiphase project to modernize the house electrical distribution system.  These projects are dependent both on continued financial contributions to the Delta Chi Association and the DKE Housing Fund at Cornell University, as well as the availability of qualified construction labor in the Tompkins County area.

While dedicated alumni volunteers like Chris Scannell ’05 and Bob Platt ’73 are working closely with Cornell to scope and execute these needed projects in a time of labor and materials shortages across the country, none of this will be possible without continued support from all of you.  If you have not yet paid your dues this year, or are interested in supporting DKE through any one of our tax deductible vehicles before the end of 2021, please go to our giving page on the house’s website to learn how.
Thank you so much for your continued support for DKE.

In the bonds,

Mike Furman ‘79
