Brother <<Last Name>>,

DKE Alumni Return to Campus for Reunion 2022

For the first time since June of 2018, Delta Chi chapter alumni gathered at 13 South Avenue last weekend to celebrate our DKE chapter and its many recent successes.  The approximately twenty-five DKE alumni returning to the house took time to discuss the current successes and challenges of our DKE chapter, explore their beloved chapter house that many returning alums had not had the opportunity to visit in years, and contribute to several library improvement projects that enhanced the ambiance of that cherished space.  I’d like to thank all of those brothers for taking time to come to Ithaca and making our post-pandemic return to campus a success.  I hope more of you will make the trip back to visit in the years to come.

In addition to alumni, our afternoon reception was attended by Jenny Loeffelman, Assistant Vice President for Student and Campus Life, Kara Miller McCarty, Director, Sorority & Fraternity Life, and Peter Warner, Facilities Manager, all of whom are important partners in our recent success.  We appreciate that they came by to meet with us and see our house which is rich with history, and the strong support of our alumni. They have been pleased by the success our chapter has had in its’ return to campus and sees us as a good example of Greek life in today’s world.

As we start a new academic year for our undergraduates, I want to take the time to recognize the many brothers whose individual efforts over the past academic year have helped to make all of these successes possible.  Their contributions of time, energy, chapter knowledge, and mentorship make the Delta Chi chapter of DKE what it is today and will go a long way to continuing our great legacy on the hill for years to come.  Please join me in thanking the following people for their recent contributions:

  • Bill Houck ’70 and Eric Neumann ’96 for their many years of service to the Delta Chi Association Board of Directors.  Replacing Bill and Eric on the Board of Directors starting now will be Dean Pourakis ’97 and Chris DeAlmagro ’08.
  • Dan Kops ’70 and Carl Oronsky ’92 for joining me in committing to the Board of Directors for new three-year terms.
  • Chris Scannell ’05 and Bob Platt ’73 for leading our facility improvement projects in coordination with Cornell representatives and the undergraduates.
  • Mike Curran ’79 and Carl Oronsky ’92 for their help in overseeing the financial management needs of our chapter.
  • Pete Bachrach ’01 for his efforts in drafting content for the chapter website and editing our Delta Chi Deke newsletter.
  • Chuck Kerner ’74, Ryan Zimmerman ‘97, and Thibault Delage ’07 for leading our nominations committee.
  • Bob Platt ’73, Emil Abelaf ‘75, Vin Bertomeu ’95, and Kevin Singh ’10 for their efforts in identifying and evaluating recipients of this year’s Robert Trent Jones scholarships.
  • Joe Marraccino ’91 and Mark Morgenstein ’92 for writing profiles on alumni George Fox ‘61 and George Nicholson ’56 for the chapter website.
  • John Yerger ’82 for providing insight and expertise to our chapter while serving as the President of Cornell’s Alumni IFC, as a member of the university’s Fraternity-Sorority Advisory Council, and as a member of the Board of Directors of DKE International.
  • Lin Davidson ’70, Jerry Kolb ’78, John Tevebaugh ‘84, Mike Clifford ’91, Vin Bertomeu ’95, Eric Neumann ’96, Dan Balda ‘96, Andrew Yakoobian ‘96, Ryan Zimmerman ’97, Ari Sobel ‘99, David “Frosty” Kelly ’00, Greg Tumbarello ’07, and Stephan Spilkowitz ’10 for setting aside time to engage with and mentor our active undergraduate brothers in different capacities over the course of the school year.

If any of you would like to join the list of brothers above in supporting the undergraduate brothers over the next school year, or more actively engage with the Delta Chi Association Board of Directors, please don’t hesitate to let me know.  The more the merrier!  Like Cornell, our fiscal year ends on June 30, and any contributions are always appreciated. I hope you all have a wonderful summer and I look forward to sharing more insight into upcoming house projects and opportunities for engagement with fellow Dekes.

Our flowering dogwood tree, planted at Homecoming 2018, does in fact blossom.

In the bonds,

Mike Furman ‘79
