Dear <<First Name>>,

In a week when Autumn has well and truly arrived, we are really excited to welcome the latest release of one of the best wines to come out of central Italy.
One our favourite producers from a region often overshadowed in Italy by Tuscany and Piedmont, from a grape variety that some may not be familiar with but should be in your cellar !

This family run winery since 1878 are hailed as pioneers for wine production in the Campania region. Earlier in the year, Antonio Galloni held the largest vertical tasting ever undertaken at this famous producer with 29 vintages spanning 8 decades back to the inaugural 1928 vintage (which scored 95 pts!). A testament to the quality of the vines, the terroir and the production values.

Made in only the best vintages (there was no 2010) the
Radici Taurasi Riserva 2012 has landed and been greeted with an initial score from Wine Advocate of 93 pts and 94 pts from James Suckling. A wine that can be enjoyed young but happily cellared for future enjoyment.

We have a few magnums from the 2011 vintage (94 pts from Wine Spectator) that are not available with any other UK merchant and represents excellent value.
The 2012 bottles are at the very best price on the UK market!

Mastroberardino

The various members of the Mastroberardino family, who have taken place at the head of the company have had in common one firm and basic value, which has informed their choices whilst shaping and giving meaning to their history.
This value is the one of loyalty towards one's homeland and origins, and towards one's natural and social environment, as a means of safeguarding a cultural identity. The family's coherence regarding this paradigm has been rigorous. This has led them to carry out a role as pioneers in the pure defence and valorization of viticulture and native grapes such as Fiano, Greco and Aglianico, till reaching a new slant: these varieties, which in the last century existed only in a few isolated strongholds, have gained so much recognition that they have been exported and planted in new and different geographical contexts.

2012 Radici Taurasi Riserva (DOCG)

100% Aglianico

Radici, produced for the first time in 1986, is the result of a long and careful research concerning exposure, chemical and physical characteristics of the vineyards’ terroir.
Its strong, dense structure and the aromatic concentration are the most evident characters of this prestigious interpreter of Irpinian viticulture.
The highest part of the Montemarano estate, with a South-East exposure and a chalky-clay soil. The altitude is of about 550 m a.s.l., the training system is the espalier with cordon pruning system, the density of plantation is 3,500 vines/hectare, the yield is about 4,500 kg/ha and about 1.3 kg/vine.

Monica Larner - 93pts
(Wine Advocate)

"The 2012 Taurasi Riserva Radici seemingly grabs all the sunshine and warmth of this vintage and stuffs it into this bottle. This is a bold and thickly textured wine that offers rich extract and dark fruit intensity. The bouquet reveals pressed blackberry, rose petal, tar, licorice and spice. Those aromas come from the ripe fruit achieved in this growing season, but you also get a lot of oak layering with toast, cinnamon and shaved nutmeg."

(Wine Enthusiast)

"Underbrush, charred earth, spiced plum, tobacco and star anise are just some of the aromas you'll find on this delicious red. It's enveloping yet structured, delivering dried black cherry, licorice and cocoa set against a backbone of velvety tannins. Hold for even more complexity."

Antonio Galloni (Vinous)

"Mastroberardino is the royal family of Campania. The estate’s Taurasi, first produced in 1928, is a legendary wine that can rival the best from any region."
