Dear <<First Name>>,

The latest release from La Rioja Alta, the 2010 Vina Ardanza Reserva is the pinnacle of wine production in Rioja from one of the very best vintages in recent memory. This producer offers excellent quality/value ratios and is lauded by critics for their fabulous range and consistency.

Labelled as a 'Seleccion Especial', this designation is only awarded in the very best of vintages. In the last 80 years of production there has only been 4 vintages with such a label and a testament to the quality. This wine meets all the official criteria as a 'Gran Reserva' but maintains a place in the fabulous La Rioja Alta portfolio at an affordable price.

Made from very old vines (60+ years) with 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garacha grapes, in only the best vintages (there was no 2006), this represents a very good wine that can be drunk immediately or cellared for 20 years.
Food pairings - Main dishes, all kinds of red meat, roast lamb, game, seasoned fish stews, tuna and sword fish, smoked and ripened cheese. Barbecues.

The 2010 Vintage was officially declared by the Rioja Control Board as - Excellent.

We are pleased to offer a few remaining cases from the UK agent and with a recent score of 95 pts from Wine Advocate and 96 pts James Suckling .. A must have for any Rioja lover!

Luis Gutierrez (Wine Advocate) - 95 pts

"2010 was a great vintage in Rioja in general and seems to be exceptional here, with a 2010 Viña Ardanza Selección Especial (what used to be Reserva Especial) that can challenge any of the recent vintages and hopefully can develop in bottle to reach the heights of years like 1973 or 1964. The wine is expressive, aromatic, very elegant and clean, with classical Rioja aromas of long aging in barrel and slow oxidation through the years in wood. The palate is polished and sleek but shows plenty of energy, with very fine, mostly resolved tannins and very good harmony and persistence. There is great complexity, and you could start smelling spice and smoke to move to earthy tones, hints of beef blood, cherries in liqueur, curry, diesel, old furniture and forest floor. A great Viña Ardanza!"
Vina Ardanza Reserva

80% Tempranillo grapes come from our 30-year-old La Cuesta and Montecillo vineyards, located in Fuenmayor y Cenicero.
For the first time in the 2008 blend, the Garnacha (20%) comes from La Pedriza vineyard in Tudelilla (Rioja Baja) at an altitude of 550 m above sea level. This 67 hectare property offers unbeatable conditions for growing this variety. Its nutrient-poor soil, covered with boulders, results in low grape yields (less than 5000 kg/ha) and significant varietal typicity, rich in aromas, with a pleasant, elegant structure.
Over 4 years of barrel aging and an additional 4 years bottle aging, post blending, prior to release.
13.5% alcohol
Winemaker's Notes
"Medium-high intensity, garnet–red with a cherry rim. The nose stands out for its fresh, spicy character, with hints of sweet cherries, redcurrants and ripe strawberries assembled with notes of black pepper, sweet liquorice, nutmeg, coffee, mocha and cinnamon. Intense and well-balanced in the mouth, with a soft freshness, nice structure, and delicately elegant tannins. Silky finish, with a good aftertaste, where sweet red fruit and balsamic notes give it a broad ending."
£ 204.00 per 12 Bottles (IB)

Magnums available on request.
James Suckling - 96 pts
"Dried cherries, cedar, sandalwood, tar, treacle tart, cinnamon and vanilla. Medium body, fine-grained and very silky tannins for a wine of almost 10 years of age, bright and transparent acidity and a long, very spicy finish. Like going back in time and touching an ornate tapestry. The texture is mesmerizing."

Luis Gutierrez (Wine Advocate)

"Great Rioja, as traditional as it gets, in good quantity and moderate (and often plain great) prices."

La Rioja Alta

On July 10,1890, five Basque and Rioja-based vine growers created "Sociedad Vinicola De La Rioja Alta" in what is known as the Haro Station District. This was the beginning of a fascinating business venture in which the only dream of the five founders was to craft and age high quality wines.
In 1941 the company took on its present name, LA RIOJA ALTA, S.A. A year later, when Leandro Ardanza Angulo was chairman of the board, we registered the brand name to which we most owe our fame and renown: "Viña Ardanza". At the time, casks were manufactured entirely in the winery by a team of five coopers. In 2002, we returned to this tradition and now manufacture our own casks with wood imported from the U.S. and dried for 2 years in our coopery. In 1970, a new cask hall was built and we started to increase our vineyards, buying several estates. This was the time when new brands were introduced, such as Viña Arana and Viña Alberdi. This was when the Club de Cosecheros was created, a new and daring way of conceiving the relationship between our clients and the winery. The Harvesters’ Club was created and continues to grow based on one thing: trust. In 1985, we registered a brand name which was to become very popular in the future: "Marqués de Haro". At the same time, we stopped making the last young wines supplied by the winery, searching for a white wine with a great personality and different than other Spanish wines.
