I don’t know what I’d do without my family. They’ve been with me through the greatest moments of my life, encouraging me and celebrating with me my successes and achievements and through the darkest days, as well, walking with me helping to bear my burdens. Family carries with it a uniqueness that extends beyond any other relationship out there.
Jesus understood the importance of family better than anyone else. Even while He was dying upon the cross, His thoughts weren’t on His own needs but the ever-present and ongoing need which His mother would have in His absence. His concern was for her care once He goes to heaven.
Caring for our aging parents is a given. However, it is usually the child who continues the care. Not so in Jesus’ situation. He would be leaving the care to someone else, John, His beloved disciple.
This Sunday, we’re going to eavesdrop on Jesus’ conversation with His mother, Mary, and John as He makes His final plans for His return to His Father in heaven.
