In declaring our intent of freedom and independence from a foreign nation, our forefathers penned the following words,
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Life. Liberty. Happiness. Did you notice that there is no mention of pain, toil, persecution or suffering?
Our country is built on the ideals of human autonomy and the right to all that life could be. However, we rarely talk about the work, the sweat, the blood and tears it most certainly requires to reach our fulfillment.
Ever since Adam and Eve’s rebellion in the garden, our world has been stained by the affects of sin. What started out as paradise in the presence of God has turned into a struggle. From our first breath until our last, we will struggle to create a life free from the pains of suffering. In fact, everything in our being fights against any type of suffering, discomfort and pain.
But what if we learned to embrace suffering? What if it is God’s gift to us? What if we have missed the goal and opportunity that suffering presents? What if we understood suffering as a way that God is at work IN us and even THROUGH us for His glory?
Beloved friends, this Sunday we will explore Peter’s understanding on why we suffer, how to suffer and how God is at work in the midst of it all. And when e begin to embrace it, it becomes a beautiful means of His grace.

Primitive camping $5 a person 16 years old and up, under 16 years old is free.
Canoe rental $25 launch time is 8 AM on Saturday, August 14.

We love seeing how the Lord is working at First Christian Church and in New City Kids. We are BUSTING at the seams and we need your help!
As more and more families come back to church, we are in need of more kids volunteers.
We Want You!
The disciples had their worries when it came to following Christ and becoming kingdom-minded people. In Luke 17:5 they shout out, “Increase our faith!” What a subtle yet incredible prayer of faith. We are asking the Lord to increase our faith so that we may increase our ministry.
So we are adding people to our children’s ministry team now. We need YOU to pray and consider being a part of this awesome team. You get to teach, help, pray and love on our kids as we point them to our savior, Jesus! Is there anything better than that?
We know that this may be a step of faith for you, but it’s only when we take those steps of faith that we are stretched and real growth happens. You can do this! You will get so much joy and satisfaction in being a part of this team. We have spots for teachers, helpers, check-in helpers, and more.

Hi parents! This week's Jesus Storybook Bible reading is week three for July, "The Singer". You can find it on page 228 of your book. Gather the kids around and have fun reading this story.
Keep it simple. Read the story and ask your kids what their favorite part of the story was? Or what picture did you like the most? And then say a short prayer. That's it!
We pray this is a blessing to you and your family.
Last week, we returned to our series on the book of Galatians, Freedom in the Kingdom, with a study on Galatians 5:1-6, as we began unpacking what our freedom in Christ looks like as we live out our faith. This week, we will be special as we take a break for a series for a Q&A with 212 alumni Leah Scharfenberg who will be sharing about her life as a missionary in Ukraine. Your student will not want to miss what is certain to be an inspiring and memorable evening.
One other thing: we will be playing Messy Wiffle Ball Wednesday night. Think shaving cream, oatmeal, and baby oil, and we are highly encouraging all students to wear old clothes, bring a towel, and maybe even a change of clothes. This is a fun game, one the students will absolutely love, but it doesn’t get the moniker “Messy” for no reason; you have been warned!
I’d like to leave you with a Word from the book of Proverbs, “Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.” (Proverbs 25:25)
It really is a double blessing to hear how God is working in and through others across the world. We are just so blessed and excited to hear Leah share her heart with our 212 students, knowing full well that God may use this to inspire one of our students to enter the mission field, to impact even more lives.
The truth is we all have stories of how God is moving in our lives, and I’d like to add to what Alan was sharing Sunday in encouraging each of you to look for opportunities to point others to the way the Lord has blessed you. You just never know how the Lord can use your testimony to expand the blessings.

As I Am Music, our student-led worship band and music ministry, has grown so has our need for leaders and teachers. If you are musically gifted and would be willing to spend Tuesday evenings from 6-8:30 PM pouring into our students, I Am Music is looking for you. Tai Chi Fitness
Tai Chi Fitness Fun for All!
Monday's from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM, First Christian Church,Union will be a place to participate in a free class for (mostly) senior citizens, but anyone pursuing a healthier life is welcome. Tai Chi fitness is a program developed by Dr. Paul Lam, a Chinese physician living in Australia. It is used worldwide for anyone who wants to improve their physical health and strengthen themselves for fall prevention.
Tai Chi originated in the orient, but the emphasis will be on Christ, beginning and ending each session with prayer. Any reference to any kind of oriental philosophy will be turned toward Christ and His sovereignty.
The medical field and Medicare recognize its effectiveness in improving health and vitality. It is a slow-moving exercise designed to deliberately make a mind/body connection, enabling awareness of our center of gravity, weight distribution and where our balance lies. It is not rigorous, and we don’t get down on the floor. If necessary, this program of Tai Chi can be done by holding onto a chair or even sitting in one. So, if people can get into the building, they can do it! Sessions will be held downstairs in the large, blue room nearest the glass double doors.
