Migration updates, RDA, and ILLINET

This month at CCS, we're continuing contract negotiations, developing the FY17-18 budget, moving ahead with preliminary stages of a potential office renovation, and welcoming a new member to the CCS team. 

In addition to continuing towards a successful contract with Innovative, we are developing our in-house tools and strategies that will contribute to a smooth migration.

One change we've already implemented is to CCS News. With the move of CCS News to a monthly newsletter, we can focus weekly updates on the migration. If you received this email, you'll also receive our Migration Updates. CCS News will continue to be archived on our website, and Migration Updates will be archived on our forthcoming migration portal.

We're also investigating the best way to collaborate internally, with Innovative, and with all of you when we move into the implementation phase of our project.

eCommerce Options

Polaris currently offers two options for processing credit card payments:

  • Comprise
  • Evisionware
Both solutions are integrated into the traditional staff client as well as PowerPac. Neither solution is in place yet for Leap, but III anticipates one or both would be functional in the web client by the time we go live.

CCS has an opportunity to influence the development direction. To do so, we need to gather more details on libraries' current and planned payment processing needs. 

Watch for our survey to help identify trends in CCS libraries.
 

Migration Portal

Debra is developing our migration portal, which will be your one-stop-shop for migration information and schedules, documentation, training and more.

It is still under construction, and we're anticipating an early version will be ready next week. It will continue to grow as we develop our project plan and learn more about Polaris.

Welcome, Marcin

CCS is happy to welcome Marcin Urbanski to our team. His first day as IT Manager will be March 20.

Marcin has a strong background in network and server management, developing vendor relationships, and project implementation. In his current role, he focused on modernizing internal operations and developing standard procedures and related documentation.

Marcin will be new to the library industry, and I am looking forward to the fresh ideas his perspective will bring. He is eager to learn about our industry, and I know that with the support and expertise of the CCS community he will be up to speed in no time.
 

March RDA Workshop

ILLINET Report Now Available

Bob has created a new report called "ILLINET Annual Report," which can be found in Web Reports under ILL and RBP Monthly Statistics. This report contains data for the State FY 2015-2016, limited to ILL and RB transactions that we can track through Symphony.  

Now that we have the report in place, we can update it each year to assist with the completion of the ILLINET report. We are also finalizing a similar report for IPLAR, and are very open to suggestions on other statewide or standard reports to provide in the future.
 

System Status & Reporting Major Issues

On the morning of February 23, all libraries were affected by an error in our circulation map which made all items unavailable for circulation and holds.

To correct the error and restore regular operations, we needed to perform a process called Halt, Initialize, and Run on the Symphony server, which caused a brief outage. Full connectivity was restored before 10:00 AM.

For high impact issues that affect your connection to Symphony or ability to circulation material, as in this case:

  • Call 847-483-8600 to speak with a staff member immediately instead of opening a ticket or emailing System Status.
  • If CCS staff identify it as a widespread issue, we will send a notice to System Status to alert all libraries.
  • CCS will send updates, additional instructions, and resolution information to System Status.

There are two ways to subscribe to System Status. You may use the web interface or follow instructions to subscribe via email. Several staff from each library should be subscribed to System Status.
