2016-2017 Q4 newsletter

Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter.

Nourish has been extremely busy over the past 3 months and we just want to say a huge thank you to all of our supporters, funders, donors and volunteers, without whom we could not continue to provide help to local people in crisis in Tunbridge Wells, South Tonbridge and the surrounding areas.

Nourish Update

by Paul Haines and Olga Johnson ( Co-Chairs )

The last 3 months of 2016-2017 have seen a consistent demand for our service with 237 individual and 221 family bags being distributed to people in crisis.

With the ongoing demand for our support, we have been increasing our regular food donors and have now increased our storage at Big Yellow even further. We now have four units and our van is now a permanent fixture. The increased costs have led us to launch our new regular giving campaign where you can donate the equivalent of a Meal-A-Month and help us remain sustainable and plan for the future.
Times Of Tunbridge Wells 5th April 2017

The move into Tonbridge is going well and we now have several food partners locally and have donation points at Iceland, Lloyds and Sainsburys. In the six months since our launch on 1st October we have delivered 96 family bags, 67 Individual bags. We now supply start up parcels, move on parcels and crisis parcels to all the Bridge Trust residents in both Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells. We are still on the look out for a local butcher in Tonbridge to help us provide fresh food vouchers to local beneficiaries. If you can help then please get in touch.

We held an open day on 18th March and had loads of interest. We have signed up 3 drivers and 2 other volunteers and we have also had some corporate interest in supporting us. Don't worry if you missed out; we will be holding another open day later in 2017!

Volunteering from groups and corporates has continued and we have had several teams in to help us sort food, clean the units and weigh in stock. If you would like to get involved then please see our website at http://www.nourishcommunityfoodbank.org.uk/volunteering/

We are now looking forward to our fundraising events in 2017 (See below) and if you would like to get involved in any fundraising for Nourish then we have just published our new fundraising pack to give you loads of information and ideas.

A Fond Farewell

After almost five years of amazing support, we say goodbye to one of our original volunteers, Laurel Soden, Laurel has been a volunteer for Nourish all through our journey from the very first days.

Laurel has been a delivery driver, packer, joint warehouse manager, collection point volunteer and has trained many a volunteer in the ways of the charity and what we do. She has volunteered at least once a week and for a time two or three in all weathers and with her trusty fingerless gloves has given us her precious time with love and passion, all to help us support our many clients.

She has packed bags for cash donations, sold cakes, manned tombolas, and helped on the many stalls and fundraisers we have led over the last four and a half years. We are really sorry to see her go and looking at the list of all shes done its hard to imagine how we will manage without her!

We will miss you Laurel but sure as a passionate supporter of Nourish we will manage to keep you at social events. From all at Nourish, both past and present, we would like to say a huge thank you and good luck for your future volunteering, they are very lucky to have someone as special as you on their team.
