A Message From Indivisible's Co-Founders

Last week we wrote to you, the group leaders, members, and supporters of the Indivisible movement, to ask you a very important question: should Indivisible endorse Vice President Joe Biden for President?

We believe that it’s crucially important for us to unite behind the Democratic Party’s nominee. And so do you. We’re excited to announce that Indivisibles have overwhelmingly voted to endorse Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign for President.

When we say Indivisibles overwhelmingly voted to endorse, we mean it: 95% of Indivisibles who responded and 94% of Group Leaders support endorsing former VP Joe Biden. (Just for context -- our support threshold to make an endorsement was 60%.) These are incredibly high numbers and much better than our previously projected support aspirations of 60% of the movement supporting the endorsement.

We’re so glad to be able to report all this enthusiasm, because we have big plans for 2021, and none of them are possible unless we make Joe Biden president. Today we’re announcing this national endorsement to the world, and now it’s time to do the work to win this election. Here’s what we need from you:

  1. Renew your Indivisible Pledge: Last May (a decade ago?), over 30,000 Indivisibles (including you!) and every major Democratic presidential candidate signed a pledge to (1) make the primary constructive, (2) rally behind the winner, and (3) do the work to win. Take a moment to renew your promise to do the work to win right now.
  2. Grow your local Indivisible group: Local groups are the heart and soul of Indivisible, and joining a group is the best way to get involved and live up to the commitment you made in the pledge. If you're not already in your local group, join today -- and if you are, reach out to a few friends and ask them to get involved.
  3. Record a video endorsing Biden: This endorsement is powerful because it’s from the whole Indivisible Movement (that means you!). Help us spread the word about our endorsement by recording a video explaining why you’re all in for Biden and what you’re doing to help him win, and share it on social media.
  4. Join this week’s National Activist Call: We’ll be joining Indivisible activists all around the country on Thursday, May 7th, at 8 PM Eastern for a special live-streamed National Activist Call! This month, the two of us will be joining to talk about the endorsement and what it means, as well as to talk to you and our organizing and policy teams about how our work has changed during coronavirus, and more.

We want to take a special moment to speak to those of you who, like the two of us, supported another candidate in the Democratic primary. Whether you voted to endorse or not, know that you are a part of this movement, and we’re asking you, personally, to join us in going all in to support Vice President Biden to defeat Trump. We can organize to win progressive legislative victories next year, but only if we first organize to elect Biden this year.

American democracy cannot survive another Trump term, but this isn’t just about beating him. It’s about paving the way for a new vision for the future. It’s about defending democracy, protecting the right to vote, reforming our healthcare system, tackling climate change, and ensuring equity and justice for the most marginalized among us. Vice President Biden is the only candidate today who will make that vital work possible. That’s why we’re endorsing him, and it's why we’re going to do everything in our power to make him the next President of the United States of America.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for joining us in this work, this organization, this movement. Indivisible means coming together, and that’s never been more important. Together, we will win.

In solidarity,
Leah, Ezra, and the entire Indivisible Team

Indivisible: The 2020 Choice Is Clear

This year, it's not enough to vote. In 2020, we all have to act. And we can still stay safe and take action from home.

In 2020, Indivisible Evanston is working hard to win back the White House, the Senate, Wisconsin and to keep our gains in the House and here in Illinois.

Thank you for reading our weekly newsletters, following us on FB and visiting our website for a full list of our 2020 actions.

We can do this if we all pitch in -- this is a team effort!

  • SIGN UP for Indivisible Chicago's Michigan Mondays Phone Banks
  • In addition to winning Michigan’s 16 electoral votes, we are focused on defending the U.S. Senate seat held by Gary Peters, which will be critical to the national effort to flip the Senate.
  • ORDER postcards for Michigan directly or pick them up in Chicago. See postcard block.

Wisconsin is having another special election on May 12, so let's work with our friends at the Democratic Party of Wisconsin (DPW) to help Wisconsin citizens vote safely. Tricia Zunker, is running for a vacancy in the 7th Congressional District (NW Wisconsin). She is a single mother, a law professor, an associate justice of the Ho-Chunk Nation Supreme Court, the president of her local school board, and a passionate environmentalist. In April, Republicans forced Wisconsin citizens to choose between their health and exercising their right to vote.  Right now we can make sure that never happens again by calling voters to remind them to mail or to turn in their absentee ballots on May 12.

In this era of 24-Hour digital news and targeted propaganda, it's often hard to discern the difference between good information and disinformation, especially on social media. On May 19, our virtual meeting will feature an expert panel discussion with Northwestern University faculty to help you learn how to "Separate News You Can Use from News You Can Lose." Among other topics, our panelists will address how we can both navigate and disseminate digital news and social media content more responsibly and effectively. Submit A Question and More Information About Our Panelists,

VOTE-BY-MAIL PUSH with Indivisible Illinois

We need to plan nationally and statewide (even in IL) for the security of our votes in November 2020!

Ask our state legislators, Governor Pritzker, election officials, and ISBE to remove any barriers to receiving, tracking, and returning an absentee ballot.  All jurisdictions should include envelopes with prepaid postage for all voters.

If vote-by-mail legislation is not passed by the end of May in IL, there will not be time to organize another option, and an expanded vote-by-mail program will not go forward.

  • Script & Contact information to call on your own here
  • Sign up to phone bank with Indivisible IL here.

Indivisible National has created a tool to help us call our members of Congress — including Democrats — today and demand that they fight to include these emergency protections for our election in the next coronavirus bill.

New Book: Unrigged: How Americans Are Battling Back to Save Democracy by David Daley

Thank you to everyone who attended our third book group "meeting" and first virtual discussion of “The Fifth Risk" by Michael Lewis. This book is especially relevant now, given that it is about how the Trump administration has made our country and citizens more vulnerable to greater risk with government positions left empty, cronyism, and anti-government ideology. We all may be more alarmed, but we are definitely more informed!

David Daley is also the author of Ratf**ked: Why Your Vote Doesn't Count, which we encourage you to read as well, though our discussion will be focused on his most recent book. Daley's journalism has appeared in the New Yorker, the Atlantic, Slate, the Washington Post, and New York magazine. He is a senior fellow at FairVote and the former editor of Salon. "Unrigged" excerpt in Rolling Stone: "Kobach and Trump’s Spectacular Voter-Fraud Failure. Follow him on Twitter: @DavidDaley3.

We recommend that you order the book online through Bookshop to support our local host bookstore Page 1 Books on Evanston's Central Street. Click HERE to order and it will be shipped directly to you. You can also support Page 1 by ordering your audio version from instead of Audible. EPL is also offering cards online and this can be checked out as an ebook that way. Thank you!

Discussion will be moderated by IE Co-Leader Laura Tanner if we are able to meet in person at Page 1 or if we have another online Zoom discussion. Also make sure to check our our Facebook Event for this meeting: This is also a great way to discuss this and other books virtually.
