Week of October 11–25
A new study shows that the more books you have in your home growing up, the better you score on reading, math and digital communication, regardless of parental education level. If that's not a reason to stock up on more books at the Friends of the Library Book Sale, we don't know what is!

The Friends of the Library Annual Fall Book Sale is October 17–October 20. Buy books for as little as a dollar and on Saturday fill a bag with books for three dollars. Friends of the Library members can shop the pre-sale on October 17 from 4:30–7:30. If you are not yet a Friends member, you can join for just $10.

Meet Ransom Riggs

Tomorrow, October 12, author of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children will make a stop in Spokane on his book tour for his newest release in the series A Map of Days. Tickets are available with purchase of this book at Auntie's Bookstore. Proceeds benefit the Spokane Public Library Foundation.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage

There may only be a few days left of Hispanic Heritage Month, but we still have some great programs to learn about and celebrate Hispanic culture.

If you can't make it to one of these events, try reading a title by a Hispanic author instead. We've created this list of suggested titles for adults or for kids.
Special thanks to Dr. Nydia Martinez and her students at Eastern Washington University for this beautiful ofrenda, one of the most recognized symbols of Dia de los Muertos. On display at the Downtown Library through November 3.
