One Big Idea
This morning the Idea Generation phase of the Edmonton Exhibition Lands project was launched. A space this big calls for big ideas - and we want yours!.
This phase of the project will be open until the beginning of May. We are running on some tight timelines, however, when the ideas are collected, we will be actively reviewing them. These ideas are going to be reviewed against the project guiding principles. This is an important phase of the project, but certainly not the last you will hear from us. When June rolls around, we will come back to the community to show you what was submitted and how the big ideas and other input have evolved to provide input into potential development scenarios for the area. As this is an important City building project, our goal is to cast a very wide net across the community to get as many ideas as we can. Coming up near the end of June, The City will host a public charette to allow for facilitated input. Keep an eye on our website and hashtag #ThinkBigYEG.
That is today’s big news but a number of other things happened over the last month or so:
On March 23, 2018 Council agreed to terminate a sponsorship agreement between the City and Oilers Entertainment Group. This decision means the Coliseum building will be permanently closed with no future reuse. This decision provides the opportunity to see wide open potential for the lands north of 118 Avenue.
On April 3, 2018 at Urban Planning Committee the guiding principles of the project were endorsed. These guiding principles were created with input of over 2300 responses and interactions with the public. They are the foundational principles that will help assess any big ideas that come forward for the area.
We know this work is important to you. We look forward to more conversations about the many big ideas that might come forward. Thank you for keeping in touch and sharing your ideas as we progress this work together.
