As summer draws to a close we are in full planning mode for our annual medical banquet on Friday, October 19, at Sacred Heart. This year’s banquet is the 16th time we have gathered to celebrate our activities in Haiti and to thank those who given so generously to make our work possible. The reception begins at 6:30, followed by dinner and a short program.
As always, the banquet is free of charge to anyone who wants to join us for a casual evening of fun and good food. The donations received each year are absolutely critical to supporting our medical mission that employs a doctor and nurse and provides medicines at our remote clinic in the little village of Bouly. Funds raised at the banquet also are used to support two schools in the town of Boucan Carre as well as our sister parish, St. Michel.
We will have an extra treat at this year’s banquet. Our food will be provided by the women of the Hispanic guild at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The ladies are planning a variety of Hispanic dishes that will be a wonderful addition to the evening.
The banquet program will be emceed by Hallerin Hill, who donates his time and always does a great job. We promise that the program will be brief and have no long speeches.
For the past three years we have hosted the Haiti banquet in the gym at Sacred Heart School. Our volunteers go to great lengths to decorate the gym for the event, but we realize it is still a gym and can never be as fancy as other venues. We trust our supporters understand that our goal is to raise as much money as possible for our Haiti mission by keeping our costs for rent, food and other items low.
We also want our guests to know that every dollar donated goes to Haiti. Our outreach program is managed totally by volunteers. This means that there will always be a few mistakes with names or addresses on invitations. But it also means that every dollar donated will go to our work in Haiti.
If you would like to attend the banquet, please contact Sonya Mire at firstname.lastname@example.org or you can call Sonya at 582-1520. If you cannot attend the banquet but would like to make a donation, please go to our website at http://haitioutreachprogram.com.
