How important is it for automakers to ensure a superior charging experience for customers when they purchase a new EV?
I got entangled in a Twitter spat with someone a few days ago (Porsche Taycan vs. Tesla) while I was in the process of updating charts that rank the EV charging networks. We ended on friendly terms, but I think they hugely underestimate the importance of charging infrastructure. One of the most important considerations new buyers of EVs have is the convenience and availability of charging - especially DC fast chargers located along interstate highways. Automakers that don't either launch their own networks or have deep partnerships with existing networks will be at a significant competitive disadvantage for the next several years.
