Mark Finchem’s Legislative Journal

December 20, 2019 As 2019 comes to a close, I pause to reflect on the year that has come and gone; we got a lot done!  We passed the Drought Contingency Plan, increased our Emergency Contingency Fund to $1 Billion, for the 5th year in a row, added more funding for k-12 education and have more wrench ready jobs available than people to fill them.  With Arizona's economy ranked 11th best in the nation, it's clear we are open for business!

2020 priorities include: addressing deferred maintenance of roads and bridges, increased educational spending to the constitutional limit and protecting our tax base.  We also will be addressing environmental issues, including what to do with solar panels that have been decommissioned.  Solar panels contain toxic materials including cobalt, lithium and cadmium.  If left buried in our landfills, these chemicals would find their way into our water table and pollute it.  We cannot accept this.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!  "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke 2:14

I look forward to being back in session on Jan 13, 2020!  We will continue to grow our economy, brings jobs and keep taxes low.

Look for a survey in your inbox in the next few weeks.  I want to hear from  you about what's important for us to address!

-Rep. Mark Finchem

Last month representative Mark Finchem launched his bid for re-election. This will be his 4th, and last term as your LD-11 State Representative. In Arizona, unlike the Federal government, we have term limits. Representative Finchem has worked diligently to deliver on the 5 commitments I made during the last three elections, which include,
  • Protecting an environment of personal freedom
  • Promoting economic security
  • Demanding a debt-free future
  • Securing safe streets and schools
  • Funding quality education, voting 5-years in a row for increased general fund appropriations

Rep. Finchem has sought to hold those who are charged with delivering on the five priorities accountable for how they spend your tax dollars. If you are pleased with the service Rep. Finchem has delivered, please visit the Arizona Secretary of State EQUAL web site and sign his nominating petition today by clicking the link below.

We are very fortunate to live in a state that offers school choice so that we, as parents, can choose what school best suits our children's needs.  There are many in our state, including our Superintendent of Public Instruction, who wish to take that choice away from our students.

Representative Finchem has worked to help preserve school choice and funding for all schools in Arizona.  The budget that was passed this passed legislative session approved funding for education that encompasses roughly 60% of the total state budget.  Arizona is the leader in school choice!

Few Arizonans know of the constitutional limit on General Funding put in place by voters long ago. Fewer still know of the schemes devised to circumvent the plain language of the State Constitution. Regardless, quality education isn’t free, someone pays for it. Formula Based Funding combined with the 20% X 2020 has driven just this component of education funding to a point just short of the constitutional limit, and because of the automatic nature of formula based funding, we will reach this limit mid-year 2021. While the rhetoric from special interest groups would have taxpayer believe that the Republican education funding priorities are “inadequate” and do not “fully fund education,” subjective measurements for sure, the objective measurements tell another story.

If you are interested in entering the world of politics, we need you!  In Arizona, a precinct committeeman is the most important elected official to our Republican Party – the dedicated men and women who hold this position constitute the foundation of our party in all fifteen counties. A precinct committeeman is a party worker at the grassroots level. Precinct committeemen are elected by voters in their precinct at the time of the Primary election, during general election years. If there is not an elected committeeman, the county chairman can appoint a committeeman to fill a vacancy. Whether you live in Legislative District 11 or in another "LD" you and your talents are needed.   For more information about what it means to be a PC click here.  Click the button below to learn more about where meetings are held, what PC's do and how you can join the team.
