Taste of Harvest

The African Fine Coffees Association (AFCA) recently held their Taste of Harvest (TOH) competion, in order to find the finest coffees from around East Africa which will be judged at the African Fine Coffees Conference and Exhibition in Kigali, Rwanda in February 2019. The Burundi National competition was won by our Yandaro lot, with Butegana and Rugori also placing in the top 10.  We look forward to seeing how these coffees do at the main event come 2019!

People of Greenco

A large and essential part of processing coffee is the work and effort that happens behind the scenes, the work to ensure farmers get paid, quality of the beans is being tested and making sure Burundi's coffee reaches the people who order it. These are the people who make Greenco run and ensure we continue to produce and export top quality Burundian coffee. They truly are the unsung heroes of the coffee industry, and we owe them a great deal for their dedication throughout the coffee-producing year.

Post season activities

When the harvest season ends for us and the farming communities, what happens in the off-season?  We partner with Kahawatu to engage in farmer supporting projects and initiatives during season preparation, to ensure they are well equipped for the upcoming season and to provide them with opportunities for additional revenue streams. The additional support from our partners abroad allows us to fund projects at the washing stations such as live stock distribution, solar panel set up and a medical aid plan. All these projects are aimed at benefiting the farmers who sell their cherries to our stations as well as their families.

Words from Maxime

The season is well and truly approaching its end for us and this is evident from the many coffee trees blooming their flowers, an indication that next season's crop is at its first stage. We are now in a period of reflection and planning, to see where improvements can be made to ensure the quality of coffee in this beautiful country can improve, as well as the lives of the farmers who grow it.
